On Saturday night, Taylor Swift continued her Red (Taylor’s Version) album promotional spree by appearing as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Swift sang the ten-minute version of “All Too Well,” a song rumored to be about her brief relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal. But in the audience at SNL was another ex of Taylor Swift: musician Joe Jonas, accompanied by his wife, actress Sophie Turner.
Jonas and Swift dated in 2008, when they were both still teenagers, attending the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards as a couple. Jonas ended things with Swift after a few months together, allegedly breaking up with her in a phone call that lasted 27 seconds. She confirmed their break up while being interviewed on The Ellen Show that same year.
“When I find that person that is right for me, he’ll be wonderful,” she said. “And when I look at that person, I’m not even gonna be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18…I looked at the call log and it was like, 27 seconds. That’s got to be a record.”
It’s believed that some of Swift’s songs on her album Fearless were inspired by that relationship, and in April of this year, Turner shared one of Swift’s songs from the album, “Mr. Perfectly Fine,” on Instagram Stories, which many people believe is about Jonas.
“It’s not NOT a bop,” Turner wrote over a picture of the album cover and lyrics. Swift reposted the Story, and added over it the words “forever bending the knee for the [queen emoji] of the north.”
At this point, Swift has a friendly relationship with both Jonas and Turner. In a lyric on Folklore, she even sings about celebrating the birth of the couple’s first child, singing, “Cold was the steel of my axe to grind / For the boys who broke my heart / Now I send their babies presents.”
