Oprah Winfrey is stepping onto main stage again with her new talk show, The Oprah Conversation. Early episodes of her third AppleTV+ project will address racial justice, per The Hollywood Reporter. The streaming show’s first episode will debut on Thursday and feature an interview with How to Be an Antiracist author Ibram X. Kendi, the outlet reports.

During the conversation, Winfrey and Kendi will reportedly speak with white readers about their efforts to confront systemic racism. The first episode will be available for free on AppleTV+, with future episodes behind the subscription service’s paywall. All episodes of Winfrey’s newest endeavor were filmed virtually and include “audience engagement” of some kind, according to THR. Future installments of The Oprah Conversation will feature athlete/activist Emmanuel Acho and Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson, whose memoir was the basis for the film Just Mercy.

Winfrey’s new show follows a recent two-night OWN town hall that tackled racism in America and was broadcast on affiliate networks. Ahead of the specials, Winfrey wrote on Instagram:

“I’ve been talking about racism on TV now for over 35 years, but I don’t recall a moment quite like this one. And just like many of you, I’ve been talking with friends and I noticed the same questions kept coming up: Is this the moment that will finally change our country? Will people recognize systemic racism for the problem and evil that it is? Where do we go from here?”

This isn’t Winfrey’s first series with Apple. The Oprah Conversation follows her two previous shows, Oprah’s Book Club and Oprah Talks COVID-19, part of her multi-year deal with the service signed in 2018. Per that agreement, fans can expect “everything from film, TV, applications, books and other content that could easily be distributed on Apple’s all-encompassing platform,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. (Podcasts are reportedly exempt from the deal.)

The first episode of The Oprah Conversation will be available to stream for free on AppleTV+ on Thursday, July 30 at 4 p.m. PST.
