“I think one of the most beautiful things to come out of the pandemic has been this renewed interest in discovering the beauty in our own backyards.”
When Wander, an upcoming lakeside resort in Prince Edward County, Ont., announced that it would now be taking bookings for stays from December 1 onward, they didn’t anticipate quite this response. With booking requests coming in for late 2020 through Summer 2021, this keen interest in the Wander property is a sign of Canadians’ desire to focus on local travel, both in their home province and across Canada, for the foreseeable future.
“I think one of the most beautiful things to come out of the pandemic has been this renewed interest in discovering the beauty in our own backyards,” Wander owner Shannon Hunter tells FASHION. “Instead of hopping on a plane to foreign destinations, travellers are realizing just how special Canada is. We have only been open for bookings for a few weeks, and the response is incredible. We are filling up from December through to summer 2021. It’s clear Canadians are looking close to home, with lots of options for spending time outdoors, even in winter, but they don’t want to compromise on luxury. And the fact that we can meet any level of comfort at Wander—you can skip a check-in desk and go straight to your cabin, for example—is appealing to many.”
According to recent data from Booking.com, interest in domestic getaways has risen from 33% to 51% in 2020 compared to the same months in 2019.
Wander, with its private cabins, offers the perfect escape for Canadians looking for a safe and stress-free way to unwind. Located between Bloomfield and Wellington in scenic Prince Edward County, the lakeside property consists of 10 cabins, each with the capacity to sleep six, located right on a sandy beach. On-site programming on the property’s expansive lawn and in the clubhouse includes lakeside yoga, family activities, sunset wine tastings, ice fishing lessons, and live music by the campfire.
On arrival guests will be welcomed with a subtle custom scent by local brand Sunday’s Company, a complimentary bottle of local wine, and cabins stocked with s’mores kits, board games, and polaroid cameras.
