We all know that La Prairie is the crème de la crème when it comes to skincare. After all, we’re talking about a brand entrenched in lovely Swiss science that makes all the celebrities slather on their creams before hitting the red carpet. I’ve been lucky enough to get to try out some of their products and swiftly became obsessed. But because I think of each little scoop of moisturizer as a precious commodity to be saved, until now, I haven’t used their products daily.
But then, in the span of about three weeks, I was suddenly traveling again— cue, stressed-out skin. Even if I’m hopping on a train instead of a plane–and I’ve done both recently–something about donning a mask for hours, waking up too early to be healthy, and just generally running around all day has wreaked havoc on my skin. My single forehead wrinkle was bothering me all day, my chin became a playground for tiny pimples, and I was so puffy and tired that I’m genuinely surprised any airline let me on their flight.
That’s where the new La Prairie Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil came in. In their signature cobalt blue packaging (an homage to artist Niki de Saint Phalle) the Nighttime Oil uses lipids and La Prairie’s elusive caviar-derived retinol, and it’s the ideal product to treat everything from fine lines, sagging skin, dehydration, and general lackluster skin. Also known as everything that had been plaguing me for weeks.
Contrary to my normal La Prairie usage, I started using the Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil every night as a desperate attempt to introduce a little glow and life to my skin. The oil is a super fine consistency and sinks into the skin–allowing me to conk out on my pillow without worrying that I’ll wake up to stains on my sheets. When I wake up, I feel fresher, brighter, and with a noticeable glow, which means I don’t have to put makeup on if I don’t want to. My skin felt plumped–dare I say, younger–and the texture became so smooth that I ran up to my boyfriend a few times a day, asking him to touch my face and marvel at it.
The best part for me is that, unlike most facial oils, the Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil plays well with all the other products in my routine, rather than making them pill or layer uncomfortably. Also, now that I know I can wear it no matter what other products I’m testing out, it means I don’t ever have to skip a single night of using it. Because going a night without my Nighttime Oil? That would be a tragedy.
