Luke Wilson, who played Reese Witherspoon’s love interest in the Legally Blonde franchise, seems to be excited about the prospect of filling Emmett Richard’s shoes in the future. Turns out, he knows just about as much as we do.
“I have not talked to Reese about it, but yeah I always kind of hear rumors here and there,” Wilson told Entertainment Tonight‘s Leanne Aguilera. “Never anything official about them doing another Legally Blonde, but I’d love to do another one. I mean, just that character Reese played was so funny at the time and that has kind of become this iconic character now.”
Even Wilson can’t believe it’s been nearly two decades since the first Legally Blonde premiered in 2001. It’s also pretty mind-blowing to hear that he has fans who watched Legally Blonde when they were kids and are now showing it to their children.
“Somebody just told me that it was coming up on its 20th anniversary, which I couldn’t believe,” Wilson continued. “I definitely now run into women that were kids when it came out and they tell me, ‘Now I’ve introduced my daughter to the movie.’ So that’s really cool and I’ve never had that happen before, where a movie’s kind of been introduced to another generation by the people who originally saw it.”
In June 2018, Witherspoon teased a third Legally Blonde movie with this Instagram post by saying, “It’s true… #LegallyBlonde3.”

Wilson might not know of any confirmed plans about a third movie, but he definitely has thoughts for what he’d like to see play out in a script: “I would say they definitely have a few children and I just think that it’d be really funny if Reese had a little mini-me, a version of herself,” he told ET. “I would definitely think that they’d have a couple of children.”
Clearly he’s seen photos of Witherspoon’s daughter, Ava Phillippe.
