A new era of Beyoncé is officially upon us.
The superstar dropped her new single “Break My Soul” at midnight, treating fans to an uplifting dance anthem about celebration, survival, and resilience. This marks our first glimpse at her long-awaited seventh album, Renaissance, due July 29.

The dance influences are apparent in the high-energy track; it samples the famous “Show Me Love” by Robin S. plus vocals from Big Freedia’s “Explode,” according to Pitchfork. (We did previously get hints that her new music would take us to the dance floor.)
It was also reported that Beyoncé was able to take more time to perfect her album given the delays over the pandemic. It seems she channeled a lot of the public’s feelings over this tumultuous time too, from undergoing big life changes (“Now I just fell in love / And I just quit my job”), to eagerly socializing again (“And we back outside”), to discovering new passions and priorities (“I done found me a new foundation”).
Beyoncé only announced this morning that she would be releasing “Break My Soul” at midnight. The song arrived sooner than expected on Tidal earlier this evening, but is now available to stream on other platforms too. Read the lyrics and get inspired below.
I’m ’bout to explode, take off this load
Bend it, bust it open, won’t ya make it go?
Yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka
Yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka
Release ya wiggle
Yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka
Yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka, yaka
Release your wiggleYou won’t break my soul
You won’t break my soul
You won’t break my soul
You won’t break my soul
I’m telling everybody

I’m gonna find new drive
Damn they work me so damn hard
Work by nine
Then off past five
And they work my nerves
That’s why I cannot sleep at nightMotivation
I’m looking for a new foundation, yeah
And I’m on that new vibration
I’m building my own foundation, yeah
Hold up
Oh baby baby babyYou won’t break my soul
You won’t break my soul
You won’t break my soul
You won’t break my soul
I’m telling everybody
Everybody

EverybodyRelease ya anger, yelease ya mind
Release ya job, release the time
Release ya trade, release the stress
Release the love, forget the restImma let down my hair
‘Cause I lost my mind
Bey is back and I’m sleeping real good at night
The queens in the front and the doms in the back
Ain’t takin’ no flicks but the whole clique snapped
It’s a whole lot of people in the house
Trying to smoke with the yak in your mouthAnd we back outside
You said you outside but you ain’t that outside
Worldwide hoodie with the mask outside
In case you forgot how we act outsideGot motivation
I done found me a new foundation, yeah
And I’m taking my new salvation
And imma build my own foundation, yeah
Ooh baby babyYou won’t break my soul
You won’t break my soul
You won’t break my soul
You won’t break my soul
And I’m telling everybody
Everybody
Everybody
EverybodyIf you don’t seek it
You won’t see it
That we all knowIf you don’t think it
You won’t be it
That love ain’t yoursTrying to fake it
Never makes it
That we all knowYou can have the stress
And not take less
I’ll justify loveWe go round in circles
Round in circles
Searching for love
We go up and down
Lost and found
Searching for love<Looking for something that lives inside me
Looking for something that lives inside meYou won’t break my soul
You won’t break my soul
You won’t break my soul
You won’t break my soul
I’m telling everybody
Telling everybody
