ABC’s hit comedy Abbott Elementary is officially returning for another season.

The network announced the news in the form of a memo from Principal Ava Coleman (played by fan favorite Janelle James) to faculty and students “aka my fans,” she writes. “The camera crew I hired to showcase all that I’ve made happen at our beautiful school thinks I’m a star. I mean, are we surprised? No, we’re not :),” she added. “With that said, it is with great pleasure that I share they’ll be returning for the 2022-2023 school year! That’s right – Abbott Elementary season two is coming to a screen near you.”

The renewal comes as no surprise given Abbott‘s immense success. After it debuted on ABC in December, its ratings quadrupled—a first for the network—mostly thanks to viewership on streaming platforms (such as Hulu.) And anyone on Twitter has probably noticed the show trending after new episodes air on Tuesdays. Today’s news arrives during Abbott‘s mid-season break, but new episodes are set to resume next week on March 22.

Created by and starring Quinta Brunson, the mockumentary-style workplace sitcom follows a group of teachers, their outrageous principal, and the hilarious and adorable kids they teach at an underfunded elementary school in Philadelphia. In addition to Brunson and James, Tyler James Williams, Chris Perfetti, Lisa Ann Walter, and Sheryl Lee Ralph are also in the main cast.

In addition to the season 2 announcement, ABC also shouted out DonorsChoose.org, where people can share donations to public school classrooms in need across the country. (Ava, however, would prefer $100 spa gift cards for her personal use.)
