Culture

On My Block is coming to an end with its fourth and final season on Netflix, but that doesn’t mean we have to leave Freeridge just yet. A spin-off set in the show’s fictional town is in the works, this time focusing on a new quartet of kids. The follow-up series will explore a new part of the neighborhood and the main crew “may or may not have unleashed a deadly curse kicking off an unforgettable adventure,” per Netflix.

As of right now, further plot and release details are still unknown, but some info is slowly starting to trickle out. Here, we’ve gathered everything we know about Freeridge so far.

Who’s in the show?

Meet the new Core Four: Bryana Salaz (Team Kaylie), Keyla Monterroso Mejia (Curb Your Enthusiasm season 11, Growing Fangs), Ciara Riley Wilson (LA’s Finest, Kim Possible), and Shiv Pai (Iron Fist, Uncut Gems). The names of their characters are still under wraps.

There’s no news yet on whether any original cast members might return for cameos.

Who’s behind the series?

Jamie Uyeshiro, who wrote on all four seasons of On My Block, created Freeridge. She and OMB co-creators Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft will serve as showrunners. Lauren Iungerich and Jamie Dooner are also co-creators and executive producers along with the showrunning trio.

“Some of the greatest comments we’ve heard about On My Block were from fans telling us that they felt seen and represented. As we embark on Freeridge, a more female-driven show, we will continue to invest in authentic characters that represent our passionate audience … Oh, and there may be gnomies,” Uyeshiro, Gonzalez, and Haft said in a statement.
