I’m not too fond of face scrubs. As a beauty editor, I’m not proud of disowning an entire category and now you know my dark, non-exfoliated secret. All that changed recently when I met the new Kopari California Glow Enzyme Scrub. My eyes lingered on the semi-translucent container and its honeydew-colored cap. I reached out to spin off the lid—the scrub shares a sheen and texture with sorbet—and scooped out a little with my finger. What happened over the next minute forever altered my beauty routine. I found The One. Read on to learn more about the scrub of my dreams, out today for $28 at both koparibeauty.com and ulta.com.
Initial impressions…
You’re going to fall in love with the luscious texture like I did. My main complaint with scrubs is that they can be so harsh on my skin. Most scrubs promise a refreshed glow but instead, I often feel like I’ve just taken a patch of sandpaper to my cheeks. Kopari’s scrub is different. It’s packed with coconut milk and vitamin B5 so it melts almost instantly when it comes into contact with your skin. The two key ingredients work together to both hydrate and smooth the skin while locking in moisture. Imagine your favorite balmy makeup remover that glides on your face. That’s the consistency with the exfoliating properties.
It’s going to leave you glowing
The fruit ingredients—which could also make a delicious adult tropical beverage: pineapple, papaya, and coconut—all work together with the EcoScrub to reveal brighter, glowing skin. Don’t mistake the product’s gentle touch for inefficiency, either. Without that sandpaper feeling, I could still feel the dead skin, leftover makeup, and oils being sloughed off.
My biggest test for a product is my partner, the world’s most-wanted skincare thief and simultaneously its harshest critic. He tried the scrub, per my recommendation, and instantly fell in love. Plus, his skin has been looking super-hydrated and moisturized after just a few weeks of use.
It’s natural and safe
I’m pregnant, so I am even more careful than usual about what I put on my skin. But like all the other products in Kopari’s line, this all-natural scrub is vegan, cruelty-free, silicone-free, aluminum-free, paraben-free, and sulfate-free. That means baby and mama are super happy.
It smells like a spa
If you’re not a fan of products with an aroma, look away. This scrub uses non-synthetic notes of coconut, papaya, mango, and citrus. As a result, the scent’s natural properties aren’t overwhelming. Usually, I avoid scented products, but this one transports me to a tropical tiki bar.
Here’s how to use it:
- Apply a small amount of the product to your face, wet or dry. Kopari co-founder Gigi Goldman uses it while in the shower (same!), whereas her co-founder Kiana Cabell told me she uses it dry. Both are fair game.
- Rub in a circular motion all around your face. I leave it on for about 45 to 90 seconds, but I have gone both longer and shorter than that range.
- Rinse with warm water and repeat two to three times a week.
If you’re scrub averse like me, this product will convert you.
