Shailene Woodley Explains Why She’s in ‘No Rush’ to Marry Aaron Rodgers

Shailene Woodley gave a very real update on how her wedding planning is going, months into her engagement to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. It’s not going yet, but for a good reason, the actress told Entertainment Tonight. There’s no wedding planning happening. There’s no rush. We’ve got no rush,” she said, adding that they are just “enjoying” their time being engaged.

Woodley opened up to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published last week about how she and Rodgers deliberately held off publicly announcing their engagement for months after it happened. The two secretly started dating in the fall and broke the news of their dating—and plans to get married—in February 2021.

If they hadn’t been afraid of the news leaking, they would’ve kept it secret longer, Woodley told THR: “When we announced that we were engaged, we wanted to do that only because we didn’t want someone else to do it before we did. And we didn’t do it for months and months after we had become engaged, but the reaction to it was really a lot, and so we were like, ‘Let’s just politely decline [to talk about the relationship] for a little while and live in our little bubble.’”

As such, Woodley and Rodgers have not revealed when exactly Rodgers proposed or even when they first became romantically involved. Timeline-wise, Rodgers ended his two-year relationship with Danica Patrick in July 2020 and Woodley revealed in April 2020 that she was single and quarantining alone. In June, Woodley told Shape she moved in with Rodgers as soon as they started dating. (E! reported that they lived together in the entire fall.)

“Starting a relationship where you immediately move in with someone—because it’s a pandemic and you can’t just get on a plane and go back and forth on weekends—taught us a lot about each other very quickly,” she said. “We jumped in headfirst and got some of the sticky bits out of the way early.”

Woodley added that she feels like their relationship is fate: “I have the perspective that I would have met Aaron in any context, any space in time, because I feel we were meant to be together.”
