Revlon’s Bestselling Hot Air Brush Is On Sale Right Now

SERGII IAREMENKO/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY

I’ll give it to you straight: There are very few hair tools that are so unanimously adored, sought after, and obsessed over like Revlon’s Hot Air Brush. The Internet can be a nasty place: A product doesn’t just get over 250,000 5-star reviews without doing something incredibly right. You’re looking for the most insane, bouncy volume that you thought your hair could never achieve? You want a sleek blowout that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg (or, like, hours of labor)? Look no further.

One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer Hot Air Brush

REVLON
amazon.com

$59.99

$34.88 (42% off)

While the Hot Air Brush is already decently priced at the best of times, coming in around $60 at most retailers, Amazon just slashed the price by over 40%, leaving the item at a cool $34. If you’ve ever lusted over the thousands of viral TikTok videos about it, there’s never been a better time to hang up your excuses, buy it and try it for yourself.

And I highly recommend that you do. My natural hair texture is in the 3A-3B range of curls, and on days when I want to wear it straight, in the past it was an ordeal. I’m talking at least an hour or two of labor, trying to juggle a round brush and a hairdryer at the same time, and I always ended up having to go in with a flat iron afterwards. With Revlon’s tool, it takes max 40 minutes to achieve salon-worthy results, with minimal heat damage, and enough shine and bounce to make a Victoria Secret model jealous.

Whether you’re buying it for yourself or for a dear (very grateful) friend, I promise you: You’ll be inundated with people gushing over you, saying, “Wow, you’re hair looks good.”

Saks Fifth Avenue and the Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance Team Up to Give Back This Holiday Season

Saks Fifth Avenue brings the holiday cheer each year with an impressive array of holiday windows at its iconic storefront on 5th Avenue and 49th Street. This year, in the spirit of giving back, the luxury retailer is launching a partnership with the Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance to provide better educational and societal opportunities to girls around the world.

The unique collaboration will be activated in several ways; firstly, Saks will be donating $1 million to the Girls Opportunity Alliance to support girls around the world in their education journeys and positively impact their communities. With the help of Girls Opportunity Alliance, adolescent girls are able to receive education that will help them to gain a global perspective and understand the ways in which they can uplift their communities.

Speaking about the partnership, Saks CEO Marc Metrick said: “This year, we are proud to support the Girls Opportunity Alliance and to champion the program’s mission to empower adolescent girls around the world through education. Our support of the Girls Opportunity Alliance is the perfect way to capture the joy of this time of year.”

In addition to its generous donation, Saks will be curating a multi-vendor merchandise collection featuring Saks brands across all categories: mens, womens, home, beauty, and accessories. Participating brands include perfumer Bond No. 9, ready-to-wear brands Christopher John Rogers, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Fear of God, jewelry designer Martine Ali, and handbag designer Brandon Blackwood.

From Nov. 23 into the New Year, 100 percent of the net proceeds of the collection—sold online at Saks.com and at participating Saks Fifth Avenue stores—will go toward Girls Opportunity Alliance. Saks is also offering three young women from the GOA a chance to shadow members of the Saks team to get a peek into what it takes to run a luxury e-commerce platform. This is the first of many mentorship and shadowing opportunities that Saks plans to provide to young women in the coming years.

To celebrate this unique synergy, Saks will be unveiling its holiday windows tonight, with the theme of reconnecting with loved ones and family throughout the season. Children from around the New York City area were asked to describe what they wish to do most with their loved ones during the holidays. From getaways to carnivals to hanging at home, their responses have been transposed into over-the-top art installations that embrace the little things and demonstrate the power of quality time spent with those we love most.

In honor of the window display, former First Lady of the United States and founder of the Girls Opportunity Alliance Michelle Obama will make an appearance, and the Young People’s Chorus of New York City are set to perform. The event will be available to stream online at Saks.com via Mastercard at 7 p.m. ET.

Sasha Exeter Makes Self Care A Priority

Photography by David Pike

Her new Tetley blend is all about stillness.

Sasha Exeter is busy. But in the early mornings, she’s putting in a different kind of work.

The Canadian content creator is more than just an influencer: She’s a single mother, entrepreneur and brand collaborator, counting Activia, Vichy, Indigo, BMW and, of course, Tetley as partners. A retired athlete (and the national face of Joe Fresh Active), Exeter’s health and wellness journey is at the core of her online presence.

On her Instagram and blog, she shares her favourite workout routines, holds space for honest conversations about mental health, and presents a holistic approach to wellness that centers on recharging the mind and body from the inside out.

But before the sun rises, the self care advocate is offline and enjoying some solitude with a cup of tea. And now, she has her very own Tetley blend, Be Still, aptly named to fit her daybreak ritual.

“You would think finding stillness would be easy but being a busy mama with a crazy hectic work schedule, I often have to schedule time into my calendar to make sure I’m getting the time I need,” Exeter says. “The best time of day for me is bright and early in the morning before the world wakes up and the sun rises. Before most people’s alarms go off and before my daughter gets up. This is when I can take a few minutes for myself, enjoy a cup of tea and get ready for the day ahead.”

Be Still launches today, November 23, as an exclusive limited-release on Amazon. Each box includes 40 sachets at a suggested price of $6.99.

“This partnership with Tetley Canada has been a labour of love. My mum is from the UK and her mother lived with us for years when I was young, so there was lots of tea time in our home. As I’ve gotten older, it’s been an ongoing staple in my day to day routine. Working with Tetley’s Master Blenders in the UK, I was able to create a soothing herbal tea rooted in flavours that defined my childhood — spicy ginger and sweet, mellow honey. I really relied on my online community during this process. Through Instagram, I was able to get insights on what kind of blends people were currently enjoying and how they take their tea, so I knew creating a warming herbal tea would be the perfect choice for the upcoming fall/winter season.”

Here, we speak to Sasha Exeter about prioritizing self care, the one piece of advice she’d give her younger self and how she teaches the value of wellness to her daughter, Maxwell.

You opened up this summer about your life off-camera. Has your definition of self care evolved since then?

I would not necessarily say my definition of self care has changed per se, but what I will say is that I have a deeper understanding of what I need to do for optimal mental and physical health. The last two years have been extremely difficult, for everyone, and the self care I was doing during the pandemic and things for my mental health are things I was doing pre-pandemic and you know what, it just wasn’t enough. In hindsight, I needed to be doing a lot more and it wasn’t until this past summer that I realized I really had to take a step back and go much deeper.

Sasha Exeter Tetley
Photography by David Pike

What is one big or small — but impactful — change you’ve made recently to prioritize your own wellness?

A big change I’ve made for myself is in the way I work. I take one day out of the work week to focus solely on my mental and physical health; seeing my therapist, working with my trainer, doing chiro and any other therapy and treatments my body and mind need to operate optimally.

As a mom, how do you teach your daughter about wellness and self care?

I think the best way to teach Maxwell anything is by example. She fully understands the importance of fitness, healthy eating and self care for me. We are super close and she likes to emulate everything I do, so naturally she likes being active; moving her body in different ways, she’s willing to eat healthy foods to help fuel her body and I love that she is into mindful and self care activities.

If you could give one piece of advice to your former self (at any age!), what would it be?

The advice I would give my younger self is to “TRUST. YOUR. GUT.” It took me a really long time to have the confidence to trust myself and what I think is right for my family and I. The older I get and the more I do it, the easier it becomes. When I look back at all the right decisions I’ve made in my life, it’s been when I have ignored what other people have told me and did what felt right. I could have saved myself a whole lot of heartache and pain if I knew this earlier in life, but as they say…better late than never, right?

Justin Bieber’s Birthday Tribute to Hailey Is the Most Justin Bieber Love Letter Possible

Justin Bieber marked his wife Hailey’s 25th birthday with an Instagram tribute today all about how much of him she possesses figuratively. It was the most Justin Bieber love letter possible, starting with his use of the word “squish” as an affectionate nickname and ending with his imitation of her grandmother.

Take it in:

To my beloved birthday squish. My heart belongs to you. My eyes belong to you, my lips belong to you. I am yours. I am so blessed to be yours. You are my forever. Life has never made more sense until you became my wife. I will never stop loving you, I will never stop holding you, and I will never stop protecting you. You my queen are more than enough for me and I will spend everyday making you feel like the queen that you are. As your grandma would say in her Portuguese accent “happy bursday baby” love you until the end of time and then after that. 🙂

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Justin’s past Hailey tributes have been just as dramatically romantic, although a little more typo-riddled. Take in this 2019 poem to Hails for contrast:

Sunlight falls into the Abyss
Just like i fall into your lips
Waves crash onto the shore
My love for you grows more and more
Sound of the crickets a true meditation
I think about you, Gods greatest creation.
As i fall into this blissful state
I ponder on how you’re my one true SOULMATE
Its getting dark to dark to see
A chilling breeze embraces me
The smell of camomile fresh from the garden
My life is a movie that both of us star in.
Speaking of stars I’m starting to see some
They light up the sky, reminds me of my freedom
How big and how vast our world is around us
So grateful for god we were lost but he found us
So i write the poem with him always in mind
Things all around us Just get better with time. I fall more in love with you every day! You have walked hand and hand with me as I continue to get my emotions, mind, body and soul in tact! You have given me so much strength, support , encouragement and joy. I just wanted to publicly honor you, and remind you that the best is yet to come! Have a great shoot today my love!

Adele Is In Her 30 Fashion Era

Photography by Cliff Lipson/CBS via Getty Images

Inner peace has never looked so good.

Adele is back.

After a six year hiatus from releasing music, the songstress finally made her return with the delivery of her fourth studio album 30 on November 19.

Music is an emotional outlet for the notoriously private 33-year-old artist, and in her new soulful record, she opens up about her divorce from ex-husband Simon Konecki (the pair split in April 2019), the nuances of motherhood, loneliness and falling in love.

And thanks to her musical resurgence, Adele is once again all over our social feeds (as she should be!), gracing the covers of magazines, giving in-depth interviews and performing her impressive vocals for live audiences.

To top it all off, the singer has also been dropping jaws with some recent fashion moments, but some discussions surrounding these appearances have perpetuated the harmful narrative that Adele is somehow more fashionable now because of her weight loss. Not only is this fatphobic, it’s also simply untrue. Adele has always been glamourous, but just as her music continually reaches new heights, so too does her fashion.

With a few major life changes under her belt, 30 is an honest look at who Adele is now. The star’s re-emergence represents an era of newfound power and freedom, and all of this is reflected in her heavily documented style. Here are some of our favourite fashion looks that speak to the new age of Adele.

Power suits

Nothing says comeback quite like a matching monochromatic set. Adele clearly understands this. At her Spotify listening party on November 15, she donned an all-black fitted pantsuit with playful flared trousers, setting the scene for the celebratory event.

As part of the Adele One Night Only CBS special on November 14, the singer opted for a more serious look when she got candid with interview queen Oprah Winfrey about her divorce, her album and how she builds mental and physical strength.

For this viral sit-down, the singer sported a white custom Christopher John Rogers suit adorned with Swarovski crystal buttons. The all-white look inspired Oprah to change from her original outfit to a more mellow look to match the singer’s vibe. The ensemble was so captivating it even led The New York Times to draw comparisons to historic all-white imagery from the women’s liberation movement. The crisp white ensemble signified an aura of peace and a fresh start. Very fitting!

Making statements in Schiaparelli

The soulful singer recently paired up with the Italian fashion house’s artistic director Daniel Roseberry for two viral daring looks. Back in September, she posted pictures in a custom black dress with puffy white rosette sleeves. To add a unique flair, she completed the look with a pair of statement Schiaparelli tooth earrings.

On November 14, as part of her Adele One Night Only concert in Los Angeles, the singer sported another custom Schiaparelli gown by Daniel Roseberry. Wearing another over-the-shoulder puffed sleeve look, she opted for an all-black gown this time around. The dress was then paired with a pair of Saturn pendant earrings fit for the performance at Griffith Observatory.

Adele’s take on the classic black ball gown

One thing we know about Adele: she’s going to wear a ball gown. At a few of her latest performances, though, the singer has sported a reimagined take on the classic dress style. On November 20, Adele sang at the NRJ Music Awards in a black Christian Dior gown with a long sleeve fishnet mock turtleneck. Pairing the dress with a sleek bun — a look we rarely see on the singer who’s known for her long locks — gave the ensemble an edgy-meets-classic twist.

Most recently, for her highly anticipated show at An Audience With Adele on November 21, she opted for a sparkling off-the-shoulder gown studded with glittering jewels, all tied together with some old Hollywood curls. And in a fun turn of events, she even reunited with an old teacher, calling the night “just heaven” on Instagram.

When it comes to broken-hearted anthems, Adele never disappoints. But her new era is not just about feeling blue, it’s about being hopeful and channeling strength. The artist has clearly found that within herself, and inner peace has never looked better.

Selena Gomez Opted for Statement Orange Sweats and Miu Miu Sneakers at the Airport

Allow Selena Gomez to show how travel style can be cozy but still eye-catching in the best ways. The singer was photographed at JFK airport in New York City today, wearing orange sweats with white Miu Miu sneakers and a matching Miu Miu purse. Gomez had a black mask on and her hair in a bun.

Gomez has been spending time in New York City as her hit Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building season 2 begins shooting. Series co-creator John Hoffman spoke to ELLE.com at the end of October about what’s coming next and how there are big things in store for Gomez’s character Mabel.

Following the season 1 finale, her character, Steve Martin’s, and Martin Short’s are “all in the hot seat,” Hoffman said. “They’ve all stepped in it, and Mabel is certainly even a bit more in the spotlight. The opportunity that might come from that is what’s intriguing to us as we go into a season two. Mabel’s life is going to get a little bit bigger in season 2.”

Hoffman also teased that shooting would begin about a month from his October 21 interview with ELLE: “It’s going to be very exciting as the actors start arriving and everything else,” he said. “We have been working with the writers for a few months now. With this show, you have to sort of build the mystery backwards to forward and twist our way to the resolve. So you have to know everything at the end first and hide things and twist your way there. That’s what we’ve been doing, and now we’re speeding our way through the scripts, and we’re about halfway through.”

Cardi B Won the 2021 AMAs Red Carpet

Photography courtesy of Getty Images

Sheer dresses, cutouts and even an umbrella chapeau dominated the red carpet.

Cardi B, in all her maximalist style glory, is never one to hold back on the red carpet.

Such was the case at the 2021 American Music Awards (AMAs) on November 21, where the rapper took her role as host quite seriously. Showing us just how much she loves to take risks, Cardi B started the night off turning heads in surrealist Schiaparelli couture.

The dress itself was simple: a black form-fitting strapless gown with a train. But the look was amped up with the addition of an all-encompassing mesh veil and a hefty gold mask that covered her entire face. The ensemble was embellished by additional gold accents, with long fingernails at the end of her black gloves and earrings in the shape of eyes with dangling fingernails attached.

But that’s not all. Cardi B sported several costume changes throughout the evening — eight, to be exact — and even took home an award: Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Song for “Up.”

The artist’s now-viral Schiaparelli look garnered mixed reviews on social media, and that’s how you know you’re doing it right. Cardi B embraces the art in fashion, and this avant-garde AMAs look is the ultimate showcase of her fearless style. It’s camp! We would expect nothing less.

While Cardi B is the winner in our book, many other attendees brought their fashion A-game to the 2021 AMAs red carpet. JoJo, the 30-year-old R&B singer who found mainstream fame in the early aughts, attended for the first time since 2004 in a stunning look. She donned a bedazzled dress from L.A.-based designer Usama Ishtay, embellished with Y2K appropriate details including skin-bearing cutouts and a visible G-string (also bedazzled, of course).

Singer Kali Uchis opted for the current bustier trend with two respective red carpet looks: an all-pink corset with a silk robe by Dolce & Gabbana and a nude bustier paired with a black mini skirt by Mugler. Sister-singer duo Chloe and Halle Bailey also channeled Y2K trends, bearing thigh-high slits and hip cutouts in their respective ‘fits.

The 2021 AMAs red carpet was filled with crystal detailing, sheer dresses, lots of cutouts and even an umbrella chapeau. Judging from these looks, it appears we’ve entered the highly anticipated Roaring Twenties of fashion.

Here are our favourite outfits from the star-studded red carpet.

This Upper-Body Gym Workout Will Sculpt and Strengthen Your Arms

If you want to work your arms, back, and chest at the gym, look no further than this six-exercise upper-body workout that’ll get you in, out, and feeling strong in no time. This upper-body gym workout is structured in supersets, which just means you’ll be alternating between two different exercises that work separate muscle groups. Because the first muscle group gets a break when you’re doing the second exercise, you can blast through this workout with minimal rest, which saves time and increases your calories burned.

You can do supersets in any workout, but today we’re focusing on your upper body. If you want sculpted arms, or want to be able to carry shopping bags (and everything else) more easily, you’ve got to strengthen your upper body. This gym workout is a great start, and it’s going to target your chest, triceps, biceps, shoulders, and back. Check out the full workout below and get ready to work your upper body!

— Additional reporting by Maggie Ryan

Upper-Body Strength Warmup and Directions

Equipment needed: Before getting started, grab a set of medium dumbbells. If you’re a beginner, I recommend using five- to 10-pound dumbbells. If you’re more advanced, start with 10- to 15-pound dumbbells. You can also use this guide to figure out how much weight you should lift.

Directions: Once you’ve selected your weights, you’ll need to warm up; try this upper-body warmup. This workout should be completed in supersets, taking little to no rest in between each exercise. For example, in superset one, you’ll do a set of dumbbell bench press immediately followed by a set of band assisted pull-ups. Take no more than 60 seconds of rest after you complete the superset, then repeat. As always, listen to your body and take rest and hydrate as needed.

Upper-Body Strength Workout

Superset 1: Do three sets

  • Exercise 1: Dumbbell bench press: 15 reps
  • Exercise 2: Banded assisted pull-up: eight reps

Superset 2: Do three sets

  • Exercise 1: Overhead shoulder press: 12 reps
  • Exercise 2: Single-arm row: 12 reps on each arm

Superset 3: Do three sets

  • Exercise 1: Biceps curl: 12 reps
  • Exercise 2: Overhead triceps extension: 12 reps

Keep reading for detailed explanation of how to do each of these exercises.

Jennifer Lawrence on Why She Disappeared, Her Marriage, and Choosing to Keep Her Baby’s Life Private

Jennifer Lawrence gave her first big magazine interview in years to Vanity Fair to mark the release of Dont Look Up, and the actress, who’s currently expecting her first child with husband Cooke Maroney, spoke candidly about her new boundaries as she returns to public life.

The world won’t be hearing about her pregnancy or her child on purpose, she made clear, for the sake of her baby and the couple’s right to privacy.

“If I was at a dinner party, and somebody was like, ‘Oh, my God, you’re expecting a baby,’ I wouldn’t be like, ‘God, I can’t talk about that. Get away from me, you psycho!’” she prefaced. “But every instinct in my body wants to protect their privacy for the rest of their lives, as much as I can. I don’t want anyone to feel welcome into their existence. And I feel like that just starts with not including them in this part of my work.”

Lawrence also reflected on her choice to step back from the public eye for the last few years; in September 2017, she revealed she was taking a two-year break from acting after doing back-to-back projects for seven years.

“I didn’t have a life. I thought I should go get one,” she said of the choice now. “The attention on me was so high and extreme that, in a bizarre way, the set had become a great escape. Everybody treats you normally. It’s not like you walk into hair and makeup and people are like, ‘Oh, my God!’ But you get burnt out. Eventually I had to ask myself, ‘Am I saying yes because I want to go to work the next day? Or am I doing this because I want to make this movie?’”

She added that it took her time to be comfortable not having security accompany her everywhere. “Since The Hunger Games, I had a security guard or some kind of comfort thing in case I walked into a restaurant, and everyone went, ‘Oh, God!’ Just for my baseline anxiety.”

“So, when I started dating my now husband, I was so embarrassed to bring my [security guard] when he asked me out,” she said. “I mean, how mortifying would that have been? So I didn’t, and it made me really nervous the first few times, and it turned out totally fine. I realized you get more privacy if… I don’t know if this is even safe to talk about. I have security all the time. Twenty-four hours a day. And a gun!”

Lawrence shared a tiny glimpse into what her marriage to Maroney is like now—something she has also chosen to keep private. “I really enjoy going to the grocery store with him,” she said. “I don’t know why but it fills me with a lot of joy. I think maybe because it’s almost a metaphor for marriage. ‘Okay, we’ve got this list. These are the things we need. Let’s work together and get this done.’ And I always get one of the cooking magazines, like 15 Minute Healthy Meals, and he always gives me a look like, ‘You’re not going to use that. When are you going to make that?’ And I say, ‘Yes, I am. Tuesday!’ And he’s always right, and I never do.”

Global Warming is Coming For Our Beauty Bags

When Nancy Gagnon, a formulator at the Designer Beauty Lab in Santa Ana, California, ventured out into a summer heat wave wearing a full face of makeup, the final look wasn’t quite what she was going for: “Half of my brows melted off, leaving me looking like some character from a sci-fi movie,” she recalls.

Carrying out real-world tests of cosmetics from competitor brands like this is a key part of product research for Gagnon. It’s not the only time she has come across makeup that is no match for the hot spells which regularly scorch her city—and she’s not alone.

As extreme climate events sweep the globe, melting makeup, evaporating eau de cologne, and stylers that liquefy in sunlight have become commonplace. Many of our products just aren’t built for the record temperatures we’ve seen this summer and last summer, this winter, and the winter before. But with sweltering heat forecasts to make frequent future appearances, how will brands adapt?

At Antrim Cosmetic Solutions in Torontoa city which broke its own heat record in June chemist Anjali Hardikar has first noticed changes in consumer habits.

“People are leaning towards products like sheet masks and hydrating mists which provide moisture and nourishment, along with cooling relief to the skin in heat,” she says. “Paper soaps and shampoo or soap bars are also well-accepted as they are not affected by heat.” And while these sturdier products should see us through the heatwaves to come, other staples are a little more delicate. “Creams can break at higher temperatures, either because the water phase is lacking a water-binding agent like a polymer, or a suitable hydrocolloid, like xanthan gum,” Hardikar explains. “Or, the emulsifier type or amount is not enough to keep the cream together.”

Thanks to its complex blends of oils and UV filters, sunscreen, the ultimate hot weather staple, is extremely heat-sensitive. And even when our lotions and potions seem to be holding up, the actives inside them may not be. Naturally volatile essential oils can vaporize and oxidize easily, reducing beauty benefits and leaving fragrances unrecognizable. Hyaluronic acid starts to break down at around 99F, while just a day in 104-degree heat11 degrees below the record-breaking temperatures that hit the Pacific northwest this summerwill dramatically degrade some peptides.

And if it’s so hot it seems like even your lipstick is sweating, it probably is: high temperatures often cause syneresis, where the liquid part of a product gets squeezed out, leaving sweat-like droplets on the surface.

So why are our products so susceptible to the weather? “Big corporations already test their products at elevated temperatures,” says Andreas Nievergelt, a pharmaceutical scientist and formulator. The problem is, in countries which aren’t usually that hot, those stability tests still assume a product will be stored at a room temperature of 68-75F. This is right—most of the time. But recent weather has made it seem less like the norm.

But in some places, extreme temperatures are the new normal. Gagnon, whose company often manufactures for overseas brands, already has to take this into account. “We’ve conducted projects with extreme climates or unique climate factors since day one,” she says, “It’s part of our basic R&D.”

lipsticks ice beauty products

Leah Romero

Formulators who create products for extreme weather often use extreme testing methods to ensure they go the distance: from incubators to simulate 122-degree heat, to hundred-mile car trips with products rattling around in the trunk. Their ingredients can differ too, often including extra, more powerful emulsifiers to help resist heat.

But manufacturers in regions which are new to extremes might be reluctant to change their formulas just yet: “If one adjusts a foundation to withstand or work at higher temperatures it will under-perform at lower, normal ones,” explains Andreas, adding, “These will still be the majority of the time.”

Luckily, some products are already adapted to extreme heat. “If I’m going to be in the high heat of the day, I’m going to use the longer wear formulas,” says Gagnon, who frequently works on this product type. “Some formulas in this same category, you could go swimming with them on.”

When it comes to moisturizer, gel creams are ideal, says Anjali, “they are very light and easily absorbed to provide a non-greasy skin feel in hot, humid climates.”

For your strands, conditioners formulated for tropical climes, like Brazil and the Dominican Republic, can make heatwave haircare a little easier.

But climate change doesn’t just affect what’s inside the jar; containers might need to adapt too. “The main problem is high temperatures and temperature changes,” Matteo Mariani, a packaging designer at the Milan-based MAIS Project tells me. “If the packaging is not designed for this, these two situations can seriously damage the integrity of the product. With plastics, “heat can change the stiffness, it can create cracks on the surface, it can change the color or the shape.”

In turn, heat-damaged packaging changes the amount of air inside the product, setting off all kinds of new chemical storms. “The solution is a sealed container,” says Andreas, though the extra cost might put off companies who don’t already seal.

For brands who do, ‘sealing’ can happen at a microscopic level too: encapsulating fragile ingredients protects them from higher temperatures in the packaging, says Anjali. “Customers get the full benefit of the actives when the product is applied to the skin.”

Meanwhile, climate change isn’t just making us hotter. The rise in global temperature produces all kinds of erratic weather. This year has seen devastating hurricanes, cyclones, wildfires, and flooding which climate scientists have quantitatively linked to warming.

Droughts are yet another consequence already impacting the beauty industry, leaving many brands looking to decrease their water footprint, to ease the pressure on freshwater supplies brought low by climate change, pollution, and overuse.

“Being in California, which is having a water crisis, I have fallen in love with multi‐functional products,” Gagnon says. “For instance, I use a 3-in-1, rinse‐free, micellar formula that was designed to not need a sink.” Water-free products like dry shampoos and conditioning bars are becoming more commonplace, too, with some brands opting for face masks in tablet-form, which also prevents their products from drying out in hot weather. And where H2O can’t be eliminated, ingredient manufacturers have come up with a tantalizing solution: algae-based waters. Internally filtered by the algae themselves, the water is usually a marine industry waste product but can be used to replace freshwater in cosmetics.

Still, adapting our products to resist heat and handle water scarcity isn’t enough. Climate change isn’t only affecting our haircare and skincare products, it’s also changing our hair and skin.

Vijay Limaye is an environmental epidemiologist who investigates the health consequences of our rapidly-changing climate. He’s already seen how climate change can tangle with the pollution that causes it, compounding the negative effects.

“Fossil fuels are enormously polluting to the climate and they also degrade air quality,” he says. “Toxic dust can be unleashed into the environment through wildfires and powerful storms, often triggered by climate change.”

climate change image

Leah Romero

That dust frequently contains particle pollutants, which break hair and breach the skin barrier. Extreme heat can push up ozone levels, multiplying free radicals which damage cells and have long been linked to wrinkles, premature greys, and hair loss. Demand for anti-pollution skincare and haircare products is already here, but the effects go much deeper: Vijay’s research also reveals links between climate change, chronic disease and shorter lifespans.

This is why adapting to climate change and building resilience will only take us so far. We have to address the root causes, too.

Like others, the beauty industry relies heavily on fossil fuels. They’re used to source cosmetic ingredients, run plants, transport goods, and also to create a staggering amount of plastic packaging every year. Researching emission-reducing alternatives, the MAIS team discovered several plant-based materials with better technical characteristics than plastic. “We have all the right cards to deal with this overheating,” Matteo says, “but what if we take sustainability into account? The product is there, the technology is there, but the price is different, and when it comes to packaging, it becomes a main driver.”

At least some major players are listening. Beiersdorfer, the makers of Nivea, are the latest to announce renewable packaging, with a pledge to go completely carbon-neutral by 2030.

Still, Andreas cautions against being lulled into a green comfort zone. “Big corporations know how to calculate or green-wash their carbon footprint,” he says. “We have to change our attitude and simply produce, use and waste less.”

beauty products global warming

Leah Romero

Vijay agrees: “It’s great if consumers choose green beauty products over less sustainable options,” he says. “It’s also wise to stop and pause before making purchases to remember that all sorts of elements of the product chain, from manufacturing to water use to transportation, distribution and disposal can have adverse environmental impacts.”

So when can we expect climate-resilient, sustainable beauty products to be de rigueur? Maybe not just yet.

“Mean temperature is ‘only’ rising by a degree or two,” Andreas notes. “Even a few heat peaks in between won’t change that. While local hotspots may develop, and the extreme weather events we saw this year can happen again, I don’t think that the cosmetic industry will do something in the near future. The cost for change is likely higher than living with some losses now and then.”

Gagnon is more optimistic: “You have some incredible professionals in this industry who have big hearts, [who] do what they do to be a change in the industry and remain dynamic, versus making the same, dated formulas for the past 30 years.” But, she admits, “change doesn’t occur overnight.”

Blue Ivy Carter Helped Induct Her Dad Jay-Z Into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Last month, Jay-Z was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and his 9-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter made a public appearance to help with the ceremony. All of the ceremony is now available to view on HBO, but the pre-recorded tribute video featuring Beyoncé’s oldest was released on YouTube. Blue pops up right after her mother, joining in on repeating Jay-Z’s lyrics. Hers was from his 1998 song “Ride or Die,” slightly censored.

“Congrats S. Carter, ghost writer,” she recites. “You paid the right price, so we just make your hits tighter.”

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

There were thirty other celebs in the video, including: Kevin Hart, Rihanna, Halle Berry, David Letterman, Chris Rock, Ed Sheeran, Idris Elba, Lin-Manuel Miranda, LeBron James, Alicia Keys, Common, DJ Khaled, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Regina King, Samuel L. Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, John Legend, Rashida Jones, Lena Waithe, Questlove, Jamie Foxx, Trevor Noah, Kerry Washington, Chris Martin, Aziz Ansari, Usher, Rick Ross, Pharrell Williams, Lupita Nyong’o, Queen Latifah, Tracee Ellis Ross and Tyler Perry and Jay-Z’s mom, Gloria Carter.

Even President Barack Obama spoke on Jay-Z’s behalf, though he had his own pre-recorded video.

“I’ve turned to Jay-Z’s words at different points in my life, whether I was brushing dirt off my shoulder on the campaign trail, or sampling his lyrics on the Edmund Pettus Bridge on the 50th anniversary of the Selma march to Montgomery,” he said. “Today, Jay-Z is one of the most renowned artists in history and an embodiment of the American dream.”

There was also a lot of name-dropping in Jay-Z’s acceptance speech when he paid tribute to all the performers who inspired his work.

“Thank you, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, for this incredible honor,” he said. “And you know, growing up, we didn’t think we could be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. We were told that hip-hop was a fad. Much like punk rock, it gave us this anticulture, this subgenre, and there were heroes in it. When thinking about what I was going to say tonight, these heroes just kept coming to my mind, Rakim and Big Daddy Kane and KRS-One and Chuck D, and, of course, a fellow inductee, LL Cool J. I watch these guys, and they have big gold chains and leather and sometimes even the red, black, green medallions and whatever they wore, everybody would wear the next day. I was like, ‘That’s what I want to do. I want to be like those guys.’ And so I set out on my journey.”

What Body Fat Percentage Do You Need to See Abs?

If you’re getting leaner by working out and eating nutritious foods, you might be wondering when you’ll start to see your abs pop. But how many crunches you do won’t determine whether you have a six-pack or not — it’s all about your overall body fat percentage.

Sure you can strengthen your ab muscles, but in order to see ab definition, you need to reduce the layer of fat that’s covering your waist. Unfortunately, you can’t spot-reduce fat from your belly. You need to reduce your overall body fat percentage, which will diminish fat from all over, including your stomach.

What’s Body Fat Percentage, and How Is It Measured?

“Your body fat percentage represents the total amount of fat mass you have,” explained NASM-certified personal trainer Tamara Pridgett. This is a combination of two different types of fat: essential body fat and storage fat. Essential fat is needed to protect your organs and joints, to keep you warm, and to help with reproduction. Storage fat is stored energy in the form of adipose tissue, and it’s the fat people tend to see on their bodies.

  • You can have your body fat percentage measured by taking skinfold measurements, which aren’t too accurate, even if taken by a professional.
  • Gyms also can have you use an InBody machine that’s similar to stepping on a scale. It sends a bioelectrical current throughout your body, measuring body fat percentage. This also isn’t the most accurate.
  • A DEXA scan or a BodPod test are two of the most accurate ways to measure body fat percentage. These are usually only offered at specialized clinics and are pricey — around $250 to $300. What’s helpful about these in terms of your six-pack showing is that they can break down the exact percentages of where fat is distributed throughout your body.

What Body Fat Percentage Do I Need to See My Abs?

Many trainers agree that it’s difficult to give a specific percentage of body fat that allows for abdominal visibility. Certified personal trainer Virginia Kinkel, who has been operating and analyzing DEXA scans for five years, said that where you store fat, how much fat, and how much muscle you have will determine whether or not your abs show. “Two people with the exact same body fat percentage can store it completely differently. One person may have abs, one person may not,” she said.

Although there isn’t one specific body fat percentage you need to see abs since everyone’s fat is distributed differently, there is a body fat percentage range you can aim for. NSCA-certified personal trainer, chiropractor, and owner of Movement Upgraded Ryan Hosler said:

  • For men, if you’re around six to 17 percent body fat, your abs should be noticeably visible.
  • For women, the range is 14 to 24 percent body fat. Definition will start to show on the higher end (17 percent for men, 24 percent for women), and your abs will become more sculpted as that number lowers.

How Can I Lower My Body Fat Percentage?

You can lower your body fat percentage by doing two main things: One, eating in a moderate calorie deficit while limiting the highly-processed carbs and sugar. And two, if you’re already at your ideal weight, you can change your body composition by working out with a combination of weight training and high-intensity interval training.

A Warning About Low Body Fat Percentage

Oftentimes, we can focus heavily on achieving a specific body fat percentage. This can be important for those managing weight-related chronic disease like heart disease and diabetes. But registered dietitian Rachel Fine, MS, RD, CDN, owner of To the Pointe Nutrition, who specializes in sports nutrition, warns that it’s critical to make sure that whatever body fat percentage you’re aiming for, you make sure it still allows for your body’s basal metabolism to function properly.

“Oftentimes, I will see athletes strive for extremely low body fat percentage, which cause hormonal disruptions that impair long-term health and performance,” she explained. “The body’s fat stores act as a direct moderator for several hormones, including bone building and appetite regulators. Without enough body fat, we risk a future of brittle bones and chronic hunger.”

Forget Body Fat Percentage!

“Having abs that are visible is not actually the best indicator of health or fitness,” added NSCA-certified trainer Brittany Van Schravendijk, head coach at Living.fit. The level of leanness required to have abs show can be unhealthy for women in particular, which may cause disruptions in their hormonal balance and menstrual cycle if they are below 20 percent body fat.

While there’s nothing wrong with wanting a flat stomach or visible abdominal muscles, it shouldn’t come at the expense of your health. “Instead of focusing on how they look, I’d like to see people focus on how strong they feel and what they can do,” ACSM-certified personal trainer Kekua Kobashigawa said.

Tennis World Raises the Alarm For Chinese Player Peng Shuai’s Disappearance

Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai competes in the 2020 Australian Open.

Content warning: This post contains an account of sexual assault.

Weeks after Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai accused retired Chinese official Zhang Gaoli of sexual assault, fellow tennis stars and voices around the sport, including Naomi Osaka, are speaking out in support and concern for her welfare. Peng has reportedly not been seen in public since posting the lengthy allegation to Weibo, a Chinese social media platform, on Nov. 2.

“I was recently informed of a fellow tennis player that has gone missing shortly after revealing that she has been sexually abused,” Osaka wrote on Twitter. “Censorship is never ok at any cost, I hope Peng Shuai and her family are safe and ok.”

Peng’s accusations detailed both a consensual relationship with Zhang, now 75, earlier in her career as well as an alleged sexual assault in 2017, just after Zhang stepped down from China’s leadership. According to the Associated Press, Peng wrote that the assault happened after they played tennis together, and that Zhang forced her to have sex despite her multiple refusals. She said Zhang’s wife stood outside the door to keep watch. Peng also noted that she couldn’t give evidence to back up her allegation, the New York Times reported.

Peng’s post was taken down from Weibo within 30 minutes, but screenshots and fan translations are still circulating, at least outside of China; on Chinese internet, searches of Peng’s name and even the word “tennis” appear to be blocked, according to NYT.

On Nov. 14, 12 days after Peng’s post went live, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) released a statement in support, saying that “Peng Shuai, and all women, deserve to be heard, not censored. Her accusation about the conduct of a former Chinese leader involving a sexual assault must be treated with the utmost seriousness.”

The situation is continuing to evolve. Today, an email supposedly from Peng to WTA chairman and CEO Steve Simon stated that the allegations of sexual assault were “not true” and rumors of her disappearance are false. “I’m not missing, nor am I unsafe. I’ve just been resting at home and everything is safe.”

In response, Simon released a statement saying that the email “only raises my concerns as to her safety and whereabouts.” He expressed doubt that Peng wrote the email, commended her courage in speaking up in her original post, and stated that he has repeatedly tried and failed to contact her. “The WTA and the rest of the world need independent and verifiable proof that she is safe.”

In the meantime, influential voices throughout the tennis world are continuing to call for an end to Peng’s censorship. “Hoping that Peng Shuai is found safe and that her accusations are fully investigated,” tweeted Billie Jean King. “I’m in shock of the current situation,” Osaka wrote in her post, “and I’m sending love and light her way.”

Tell Me Lies: Everything We Know About The New Hulu Drama

Carola Lovering’s 2018 novel Tell Me Lies is being adapted by Hulu into a series as part of Emma Roberts’ first look deal with the streaming service. Here’s what we know about the show so far.

What’s the plot?

The story covers eight years in the life of a young woman named Lucy Albright, who arrives on her college campus wanting to leave a traumatic relationship with her mother behind. There, she meets a young man named Stephen DeMarco. They start off with your average early romance, but then things “quickly fall into an addictive entanglement that will permanently alter not only their lives, but the lives of everyone around them.”

Who’s starring?

Grace Van Patten of Nine Perfect Strangers will be taking on the role of Lucy, playing opposite Mrs. Fletcher‘s Jackson White. Lucy is described as superficially appearing to be “a sheltered but well-adjusted girl from an affluent Long Island town” who is labeled as the “Ice Queen” by her peers. Really, she feels disconnected from them by childhood events that make it hard to connect. Stephen seems to be a classic bad boy archetype, with dangerous charm and the ability to read people—but he has a “dark side.”

Who’s behind the project?

In addition to Roberts, the book is being adapted by Meaghan Oppenheimer, who will also be serving as the showrunner and executive producer under the Belletrist TV production company established by Roberts. Other executive producers from Belletrist are Karah Preiss and Matt Matruski, but Laura Lewis and Stephanie Noonan of Rebelle Media, and Vice Studios’ Shannon Gibson and Sam Schlaifer from Refinery29 are also on board. Lovering will be consulting on the project.

When will it begin production?

There isn’t yet any info out on when production will begin, nor when we can expect to see the series premiere.

After a Year of Turmoil, the NWSL Crowns Its Champion: the Washington Spirit

After a tumultuous season that saw the NWSL reckon with abuse allegations and its own culture of silence, the league has crowned its new champion: the Washington Spirit, which beat the Chicago Red Stars to win the franchise’s first ever championship.

The game started with a choppy, back-and-forth first half, and both teams looked ready to take a 0-0 score into halftime when Chicago’s Rachel Hill headed a floater of a cross past Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe in the last seconds of stoppage time. That gave the Red Stars the lead, but it was all Spirit in the second half. NWSL Rookie of the Year Trinity Rodman pushed the tempo for Washington and had a bullet of a shot go off the post, eventually helping to create the play that led to Chicago defender Tierna Davidson’s foul in the box. Andi Sullivan put away the resulting penalty kick to tie the score 1-1 in the 67th minute, and with star forward Mallory Pugh unavailable due to a first-half injury, Chicago struggled to get into an offensive rhythm.

As the game wore into extra time, the Spirit kept up the pressure until it finally paid off. Rodman sailed a long, curling cross that met the head of US Women’s National Team star Kelley O’Hara, who sliced it back across the net for her first (!) goal of the season. (Want a fun piece of trivia? O’Hara, at 33, is now the oldest player to score in the NWSL championship. Rodman, who served up the cross, is the youngest to score in the playoffs thanks to her goal in the semifinals.) Chicago had a few more dangerous chances in the waning minutes, but Bledsoe, recently named 2021 Goalkeeper of the Year, came up with a clutch save on a close-range shot from Makenzy Doniak while another hard chance went just over the bar.

It was the most gratifying of wins for Washington, who fired its coach, Richard Burke, in mid-season after allegations of verbal abuse against players. The team has also been dealing with an ownership issues, leading to fans and players alike pushing for the team to be sold. Yet the Spirit players banded together in the face of adversity. “We’re a team that’s gotten closer through this process,” Rodman told The Athletic recently. “I wouldn’t want to be on any other team.”

Watch the exciting game’s highlights ahead, and congrats to the Spirit!

Blake Lively Wears a Crop Top, Long Black Jacket, and Lace Up Boots In NYC

On Thursday, Blake Lively walked through New York City streets in casual fashion that fit in perfectly. She wore a long black coat over a white crop top with blue piping that she’s worn before on an outing with husband Ryan Reynolds. Her skinny black jeans were tucked into black combat boots with white laces.

Slung over her shoulder was a brown leather phone case, and she carried a yellow water bottle as she walked down the street with a male friend.

MEGAGetty Images

Lively just released her directorial debut for her friend Taylor Swift’s music video bringing to life the song “I Bet You Think About Me.” Swift has been re-recording several of her albums as a way to take back her music from manager Scooter Braun, who refused to sell Swift her original catalogue. The song is off of Red (Taylor’s Version), and the video featured actor Miles Teller and his actual wife Keleigh, playing a groom and bride who have their wedding ruined by the memory of Taylor Swift, the groom’s ex.

Leading up to the music video’s release, Lively peppered her Instagram with hints about it, first with an Instagram post where she’s wearing the ring Swift dons in the video:

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

And then she shared a clip from the video the night before it came out in which a hand wearing that same ring rips open a wedding cake to show the red material inside:

Lively and Swift have been close friends for many years, and Lively made an appearance with Reynolds at the Saturday Night Live after party when Swift was the musical guest. Unrelated to Swift, Blake Lively has a lot going on right now— she recently launched a new line of mocktail mixers called Betty Buzz.

“I don’t drink because I don’t like the effects of alcohol, but I like being a part of it,” she told reporters while promoting the brand. “I like being social. I like people coming together. I found that sometimes not drinking, the thing that was interesting was that it was a little alienating, because you don’t feel — and maybe it’s just in your own head — but you just don’t really feel a part of it.”

She’s hoping this new line gives the people in the room who don’t want to drink something delicious to enjoy.

Likewise, Ssense Montreal opened a space for Balenciaga’s “Hacker” collection on November 15, which sees the opposite ruse occur. Now that the second part of this project has finally launched this week, Ssense Montreal will turn its first floor, lobby and windows into a space overtook by Balenciaga imitating the retired concept of a trunk show. It will also act as Quebec’s exclusive retailer for the Hacker collection. The installation and collection is in place until December 12 at Ssense Montreal.

The BWPC Is “Taking Ownership of Our Identities” and Bringing Soccer to More Black Communities

Imani Dorsey and Ifeoma Onumonu, from the National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) Gotham FC, both believe in the power of visibility — seeing is believing. Onumonu specifically recalls a time in college when a young girl identified her as her favorite soccer player. “She was a young Black girl, too,” Onumonu told POPSUGAR. “Looking back, I didn’t realize that’s why representation’s so important. She look[ed] up to me, yes, because I’m Black, but I think for her, that meant so much more, just seeing someone that looked like her, or she could see herself in, playing this sport at a high level.”

Dorsey noted she didn’t have many Black women role models growing up in soccer. “But when I would think about going to professional games when I was a kid, or even college games, I loved when I would see a Black player on the field, and it just felt so inspiring and exciting,” she said. “And even in the media that I would watch as a kid . . . you wouldn’t see Black representation or Black women on the screen, and that kind of gets into your head.”

The NWSL did not respond to POPSUGAR’s inquiries to confirm the total number of Black players on this season’s rosters — the season wraps up on Saturday, Nov. 20, with the NWSL final — but there are currently 44 members in the Black Women’s Player Collective (BWPC), including seven on the Collective’s board. Back in the summer of 2019, there were only 32 Black players listed on NWSL rosters.

Dorsey and Onumonu are both board members of the BWPC, which made its first organized statement in August 2020. The Collective announced a new website in mid-October of this year, along with a logo that tilts the W, for “women,” on its side seemingly as an ode to stairs — the potential of upward growth. Onumonu noted that this represents the BWPC’s mission to uplift Black women and girls. And Dorsey said, “We know just putting our voice out there as a collective is going to give kids across the board, but especially young Black girls, another perspective of what’s out there and what their future can be.”

The Women’s Sports Foundation reports the “drop-out rate for girls of color in urban and rural centers is twice that of suburban white girls.” To address this, the BWPC, in partnership with Adidas, Black Players for Change, Musco Lighting, and the US Soccer Foundation, set out to install 12 mini-pitches in predominantly Black communities by 2022. Adidas is also working alongside the BWPC to create soccer clinics for young girls; the BWPC recently shared photos from clinics in Louisville, KY, and Atlanta. According to an Adidas spokesperson, a total of 40 girls attended the Atlanta clinic on Oct. 23, and coaches from a local club, Inter Atlanta FC, led sessions while four BWPC members — Mandy Freeman, Jennifer Cudjoe, Domi Richardson, and Jasmyne Spencer — acted as assistant coaches.

“We know just putting our voice out there as a collective is going to give kids across the board, but especially young Black girls, another perspective of what’s out there and what their future can be.”

Onumonu explained that through the clinics, these girls have the opportunity to meet professionals and gain insight into the game that they might not necessarily have acquired otherwise. “And I think the biggest thing that we want to do with these clinics and these mini-pitches is just [give] more access to the game and [give] more access to players who are in the game and build a community around the pitches. Because it’s so much more than soccer,” she said.

One overt boundary attributing to dropout rates for Black American players is financial cost — Yahoo! Sports‘ Henry Bushenll delves into how soccer in the US is geographically and economically inaccessible in a piece entitled “The Privilege of Play: Why the world’s game is a white game in the U.S.” Dorsey added, too, that the culture isn’t necessarily as inclusive or welcoming as one would hope. She grew up in central Maryland in a predominantly white and affluent area, and “thinking back on my own experiences, my family is quite active and engaged in a lot of social justice issues and things that are going on in the Black community and just in the world in general, and that was something that we talked about very openly,” she said. “And so having that base outside of my sport or friends at school was enough for me.”

However, being in the minority in soccer, Dorsey said, was very isolating “when you’re feeling things that are specific to your experience as a Black individual and no one’s relating to it or engaging with you about it.” It’s this cultural issue within soccer that she thinks is another factor for Black girls discontinuing the sport. Dorsey did say she was lucky enough to have a handful of other Black players on her teams later in life — and how special that was for her, she said, is hard to put into words. Previously, she felt as though she had to keep her perspective as a Black woman to herself. She would “downplay” it to “fit in.”

Dorsey explained, “That’s really where the work that we’re doing with the Black Women’s Player Collective and coming together as a group is so impactful because it’s really us taking ownership of our identities and experiences as Black women and bringing that to the forefront and encouraging the rest of the soccer community to acknowledge that and see its value as much as we do.”

Separately, Onumonu shared that she felt “interchangeable” with other Black players in the past and was commonly described as “athletic and fast” regardless of whether or not it were true. “I mean, you don’t really necessarily feel like an individual,” she said. “You don’t really feel like a complete player, and that can be quite hindering.” Though Onumonu believes she has overcome that obstacle, she knows she’s not the only one to go through it. “It’s important that we show that we are not a monolith, that we all bring different aspects to the game, that we all have different experiences,” she stated.

The 2021 NWSL season came to a halt the first weekend in October after North Carolina Courage head coach Paul Riley was fired due to allegations of verbal and sexual abuse from former players originally published by The Athletic. Teams, including Gotham FC, came together at their games’ six-minute mark on Oct. 6 in solidarity with those who faced abuse, bringing awareness to how long it took for them to be heard (six years). Allegations against Riley sparked a larger conversation about a pattern of NWSL overlooking player concerns, and Dorsey said at the time she was very proud to take part in this act of solidarity.

“It’s important that we show that we are not a monolith, that we all bring different aspects to the game, that we all have different experiences.”

“Players work so hard to be the best possible athletes they can be, so the revelations of the abuse and lack of player protection that came out recently have felt, quite frankly, debilitating,” Dorsey said. “At the very least, player health and safety should be the league’s utmost priority. Therefore, I know it is important that the actions we take as players on and off the field hold the league accountable and remind them that this work is just beginning. Systemic change is required to root out pervasive abuse and a culture of silence throughout this league.”

Dorsey continued on to say she believes “there needs to be greater accountability at multiple levels to protect NWSL athletes, but first and foremost, the league needs to listen to players and prioritize their concerns.” She referenced the eight demands the NWSL Players Association released in response to The Athletic‘s story on Riley, noting she believes those demands, which the NWSL officially agreed to at the end of October, are a start to protecting players. “But I do think additional consideration is required to protect Black / non-white athletes, trans athletes . . . any athlete that does not identify as cis, white, or straight,” she added, stating that the league as a whole and individual clubs must to do their research on people they hire so players feel safe.

Jennifer Lawrence Wears Green Maternity Mini Dress and Pink Heels

On November 17, Jennifer Lawrence attended Netflix’s Don’t Look Up LA Tastemaker Screening at Ross House in Los Angeles, California, wearing a bright green mini dress for maternity wear, featuring long sleeves and a mock turtle neck. Her long blonde hair was left down, waving over her shoulders, and on her feet were a pair of strappy, pink shoes with wide heels.

Lawrence was interviewed that same evening in front of a crowd of BAFTA voters, Variety reports, and was joined on stage by Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, and director, writer and producer Adam McKay after a screening of the film. The movie was co-written by Taura Stinson, Ariana Grande and Scott Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi. The latter two also have roles in the film, and Lawrence claims she completely “fangirled” over meeting Grande.

“She can’t make bad music,” she gushed. “I’ve since reflected on my behavior with Ariana Grande. I went full radio contest winner. I was so excited and nervous that at one point, I just kind of walked into her hotel room and sat down. I’ve just been thinking about it a lot lately. There were all of these trunks for her hair and makeup, and I was like, ‘Do you live here?’”

MaKay joked that Grande “didn’t like” Lawrence.

The actress is currently expecting her first baby with her husband Cooke Maroney. Her pregnancy was confirmed in September, and a source told People at the time that she was “looking forward” to being a mom.

“Jen wanted a family for a long time and found an ideal mate whom she loves, respects and enjoys being around,” the source said. “She loves married life, and they have a solid foundation for a baby. She is very happy and looking forward to being a mom…She loves her work and that will continue. Like other actors, she will balance her career and her life as a wife and mom. She will do it well. Jen is grounded and ready to be a parent because she loves family life.”
