Kylie Jenner Debuts Her Baby Bump at NYFW

Photography by Getty Images

Jenner’s first maternity look since her recent pregnancy announcement is a stunning all-white ensemble.

Kylie Jenner’s unborn baby is already cooler than me. After surprising fans on September 7 with an announcement that she is expecting her second child with boyfriend Travis Scott, Jenner debuted her baby bump in the chicest way possible: at New York Fashion Week. Being introduced to the world at one of the most coveted fashion events ever sets the precedent that Jenner’s new baby will have some serious style.

The star stepped out in an all-white look, featuring a super-short leather dress and a long, gleaming leather trench coat. Both pieces are from the brand Vintage Marcela, which Jenner has worn before. She completed the outfit with sleek clear Gianvito Rossi heels, chunky futuristic sunglasses and a tiny Balenciaga bag.

While Kylie Jenner is certainly no stranger to big NYFW moments, she may have just upped the ante for herself and all other fashion week attendees with this form-fitting monochromatic maternity look. Her first pregnancy, with daughter Stormi, was kept completely under wraps, so Jenner’s decision to go public with her second pregnancy was unexpected (even though some dedicated fans predicted it). Naturally, the celebrity influencer and makeup mogul made the announcement on Instagram, through a heart-warming video featuring clips of herself and Scott hugging, going to the doctor, and telling momager Kris Jenner the news. The video has already received more than 22 million likes, and is reminiscent of her first baby-reveal video after Stormi was born, titled “To Our Daughter.” (Spoiler alert: prepare to be moved to tears.)

Following the announcement and the NYFW appearance, Kylie Jenner may start to attend more public events — in contrast to her first pregnancy when she mostly stayed in her gated community, a source told E! News. Knowing the beauty mogul, we’re definitely in for some stylish pregnancy content. The question now on our minds is: will she and her fashion-forward baby bump be at the Met Gala on September 13? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Beyoncé Paired a Cocktail Purse With a Feathered Valentino Top and Altuzarra Flairs on a Yacht

Beyoncé graced Instagram with a first look at her 40th birthday fashion. The singer spent the time on a yacht in Capri, Italy, naturally, and shared three Instagram grid posts full of outfit of the day pics. She graciously let her husband Jay Z pose beside her in some shots. Bey went for a stylish yet casual look: a feathered Valentino blouse paired with Altuzarra flair jeans. She accessorized with Philo sunglasses and a Judith Leiber cocktail purse. KJ Moody styled the outfit.

Beyoncé spoke to Harper’s Bazaar ahead of her big day about how she hopes to spend her new decade. “I’ve done so much in 40 years that I just want to enjoy my life,” she said. “It’s hard going against the grain, but being a small part of some of the overdue shifts happening in the world feels very rewarding. I want to continue to work to dismantle systemic imbalances. I want to continue to turn these industries upside down. I plan to create businesses outside of music. I have learned that I have to keep on dreaming. One of my favorite quotes is from the inventor Charles Kettering. It goes ‘Our imagination is the only limit to what we can hope to have in the future.’”

“I want to show that you can have fun and have purpose, be respectful and speak your mind,” she continued. “You can be both elegant and a provocateur. You can be curvy and still be a fashion icon. I wish this freedom for every person. I have paid my dues and followed every rule for decades, so now I can break the rules that need to be broken. My wish for the future is to continue to do everything everyone thinks I can’t do.”

Parachute Bedding, Loungewear and Home Decor Is Now Easier to Shop in Canada

Photography courtesy of Parachute

The California brand beloved for divine linen duvet covers and cozy waffle robes has a new Canadian website (hello, no duties!) and partnership with Hudson’s Bay.

Have the last 18 months made you care more about creating a cozy, safe, beautiful home base than ever before? It sure has for me. While cooped up during various lockdowns in Toronto, I started to become acutely aware of all the things in my two-bedroom apartment that suddenly felt…tired. Like I was settling. And a lot of the attention — and funds — I’d previously spent on slick blazers and cute shoes (and bi-weekly manicures, let’s be honest) started to get funnelled towards Adult Priorities like framed art, sumptuous bedding and comforting loungewear.

I know I’m not the only one — in November 2020, Yahoo Finance reported that according to Etsy CEO Josh Silverman, the e-tailer’s home furnishings sales were up over 120 percent year-over-year, and folks are still lamenting longer-than-ever shipping times on some furniture items purchased during the pandemic. Parachute, the California-based home and lifestyle brand that makes linen look downright aspirational — “if I buy this duvet set, I will live out my best, modern Nancy Myers-meets-Kate Hudson life” — has been there for consumers on this journey to home improvement. And they always understand the assignment: comfort and style in equal measure.

Photography courtesy of Parachute

Now, it’s even easier to shop the brand north of the border — as of today, Parachute has a shiny new Canadian website where you can buy their covetable wares without any confusion over pricing, annoying duties or painful shipping times. Parachute co-founder Ariel Kaye say the expansion was all about creating the best customer experience for their Canadian customer base, which they saw increase by 43 percent from 2019 to 2020. “This will be just such an easy online shopping experience so that customers can get the quality and comfort really quickly to their homes.” Plus, the brand has a partnership with Hudson’s Bay so Canadian shoppers can touch Parachute’s goodies IRL (and jump on their beloved mattresses — more on that in a bit) before pulling the trigger. “A big part of who we are at Parachute is we think about how we can be where our customers are, and this feels like that step forward so that we can really be where our Canadian customers are.”

We picked Kaye’s brain about all things comfort, from how to build the coziest bed to how to get the most mileage out of your soft pants. Here, all the wisdom we learned about cranking your abode’s comfy level to 100 while keeping it completely authentic to you.

Customers wanted comfort at the height of COVID

“When COVID hit, people all of a sudden were at home — our homes are working on overdrive, everyone was trying to figure out how to make their homes more comfortable, we weren’t travelling or really spending money on much of anything else, and so it felt like a good investment to create more comfort, especially during a time that was particularly uncomfortable.

“We saw our mattress sales almost double and we saw robe sales go through the roof. Robes have always been a popular product for us, but so much so that we actually accelerated the launch of new colours and fabrics so that we could have more offerings while people were at home. I like to joke that robes are the new blazer while we’re at home.”

You should most definitely choose loungewear that can also be worn *outside* the home

“With our loungewear, we were thinking about how we could take this idea of comfort and move it outside of the home. And so, using the fabrics that we’re known for, how could we create products that were really versatile so that they could be something that you were lounging and cozy at home in, but also something that you could wear to brunch or walking the dog or whatever you might be doing? [As a consumer, you want] stuff that you can throw on, that’s easy to integrate with the rest of your wardrobe. I love the button-up shirt — I like to throw that shirt over everything all the time and use it as a light layer.”

Photography courtesy of Parachute

Building the ultimate dreamy sleep spot starts with the foundation

“It starts with the least sexy part, which is the mattress and the pillows. That’s where that sleep foundation begins. And obviously the Parachute mattress and pillows are the best around [smiles]. That mattress was a many-year process for us and it has truly changed my sleep life — I’m one of those people that can’t wait to get home from even the nicest hotel so that I can get back to my mattress.”

Ask yourself some key questions before you choose your bedding — like, are you a sweaty sleeper?

“The sheets and duvet cover touch your skin, so it’s really important that you find the right fabric that helps you sleep most comfortably at night. That’s something that people don’t really think about. We all run differently — some people are more hot at night, some people are more cold, some people prefer a very smooth fabric, some people like a more organic texture. And you also have to think about where you live and what your surroundings look like — are you a person that blasts A/C all night long or do you need fabric that’s a bit more breathable? There are a lot of self-questions that I encourage people to ask as they’re thinking about a purchase experience.”

When decorating your place, anchor your choices in the reality of your lifestyle

“When you’re creating and decorating a space, [think about] what you want the space to be used for. What’s the ideal purpose? How do you want to engage with it? And then how can you make it work the best for you and your lifestyle. It’s all very personal — is your living room all about getting cozy and watching shows at night, or is it a place where you’re entertaining and playing boardgames and having friends over to drink wine and listen to music? If so, you might want more seating areas, you might want access to a bar area. Things like that help make your space feel right for you.

“As you move through milestones and life moments, your home really is the heart of everything. The past year and half, we’ve seen our homes have to be everything for so many people and I don’t think the behaviour is going to change. People are going to be looking for ways to continue to enhance their home experience and keep enjoying the environment there.”

Jennifer Lawrence Is Expecting Her First Child With Husband Cooke Maroney

J.Law is having an eventful 2021. Mere hours after the highly anticipated trailer for the star-studded Netflix film Don’t Look Up—the actress’s first film since 2019—dropped, reports circulated that the Mother! star is, well, becoming a mother. A representative for Lawrence confirmed to People that the 31-year-old is pregnant with her first child.

Lawrence, perhaps best known for her performances in The Hunger Games and American Hustle, is married to the art dealer Cooke Maroney, whom she started dating in June 2018 and married in October 2019 at a dazzling 150-guest event in Rhode Island.

“I definitely wasn’t at a place [initially] where I was like, ‘I’m ready to get married,’” Lawrence told the Naked with Catt Sadler podcast in June 2019. “I just met Cooke and I wanted to marry him. We wanted to marry each other. We wanted to commit fully. He’s my best friend, so I want to legally bind him to me forever. And fortunately the paperwork exists for such a thing. It’s the greatest. You find your favorite person in the planet and you’re like, you can’t leave. So I wanted to take that offer.”

Still, the couple has been careful to keep the relationship private from the beginning of the courtship, which sparked after Lawrence and Maroney were introduced by mutual friend Laura Simpson, according to Page Six. Only two months after they started dating, a source told People, “She is smiling like I have never seen her do with any of her previous boyfriends.” They were engaged by February 2019.

Baby rumors first started bubbling before the couple’s wedding, when a source told Entertainment Tonight in June 2019 that Lawrence and Maroney were interested in having kids. “They both want children and have been discussing starting a family,” the source said. “Their families truly believe they are meant to be; his family loves her family and vice versa, so their parents are excited. Their parents get along so well and are all looking forward to big family get-togethers.”

There’s no word yet on an official due date, but Lawrence has begun to display her growing bump on strolls through New York City. What a proud mother(!).

Britney Spears’s Father Petitions to End Her Conservatorship

Photography by Getty Images

In a shocking turn of events, Spears’s father and co-conservator Jamie Spears has asked a judge to end the conservatorship that has long controlled her life.

Britney Spears’s fight to be released from her 13-year conservatorship has been troubling, to say the least — but it looks like the end could soon be near. On September 7, Variety reported that the star’s father, and co-conservator, Jamie Spears, filed a petition to end his daughter’s conservatorship. This would give Britney Spears full autonomy over her personal life, finances and medical decisions for the first time since 2008.

“As Mr. Spears has said again and again, all he wants is what is best for his daughter,” wrote Jamie Spears’s attorney, Vivian Thoreen. “If Ms. Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr. Spears believes that she should get that chance.” The request from Jamie Spears comes as shock considering he has consistently defended the conservatorship and his role within it, up until as recently as August 2021.

Over the past few months, the calls to #FreeBritney have grown into an undeniable viral social media movement. And Jamie Spears has found himself at the very centre of the situation for allegedly using the conservatorship to exploit his daughter while other family members stood by and did nothing. Britney Spears has also become increasingly outspoken about the guardianship in court and on social media. At a June 23 court hearing, she shared horrifying details about what she says she’s endured over the past 13 years, calling her treatment “abusive.” Britney said that under the conservatorship, she was forced to keep in an IUD to prevent her from having children and was put on the antidepressant lithium against her will, among other things.

In the petition filed by Jamie Spears on September 7, his daughter’s ongoing requests were acknowledged. “Ms. Spears has told this Court that she wants control of her life back without the safety rails of a conservatorship,” wrote Thoreen. “She wants to be able to make decisions regarding her own medical care, deciding when, where and how often to get therapy. She wants to control the money she has made from her career and spend it without supervision or oversight. She wants to be able to get married and have a baby, if she so chooses. In short, she wants to live her life as she chooses without the constraints of a conservator or court proceeding.” Jamie Spears also suggested in his filing that the judge could order the end to the conservatorship without a psychiatric evaluation on his daughter, something the star has previously said she refuses to undergo.

Thoreen said the petition came after Spears has “demonstrated a level of independence” — like driving, which she was previously unable to do under the conservatorship, and appointing a lawyer of her own choosing. Spears’s ability to make these decisions on her own suggests that a conservatorship may no longer be required, Thoreen wrote. After being given the permission to choose her own lawyer in July, Spears appointed former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart, who said he would be moving “aggressively” to end the conservatorship.

Jamie Spears has not served as personal conservator to Britney since 2019 (the role is being filled by professional conservator Jodi Montgomery), but he currently oversees her finances. In August, he offered to negotiate a settlement for him to step down from the role, but Rosengart refused this option, saying that Spears should resign immediately and he should not receive any monetary compensation for doing so.

In response to the petition filed by Jamie Spears on September 7, Rosengart said it “represents a massive legal victory for Britney Spears,” and called it “vindication.” But Britney’s lawyer — and #FreeBritney followers — maintain that Jamie Spears filing to end the conservatorship will not absolve him of an investigation into the mental, verbal, and emotional abuse the star allegedly endured under his control.

“Having exposed his misconduct and improper plan to hold his daughter hostage by trying to extract a multi-million dollar settlement, Mr. Spears has now effectively surrendered. There is no settlement,” Rosengart said. “To the extent Mr. Spears believes he can try to avoid accountability and justice, including sitting for a sworn deposition and answering other discovery under oath, he is incorrect and our investigation into financial mismanagement and other issues will continue.”

This represents a major step — and potentially huge win — for Britney Spears and #FreeBritney fans, but the decision will ultimately be left up to the judge. The next hearing for this case is scheduled for September 29.

Do You Need to Space Out Your Flu Shot and COVID Booster? We Asked Experts

Close up portrait of beautiful young woman wearing mask getting vaccinated.

Flu season is rapidly approaching, which means it’s time to set up an appointment to get your annual flu shot. Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over, and due to the highly contagious Delta variant and other mutations, COVID booster shots may also be in many Americans’ futures. Although the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention is only recommending booster shots for immunocompromised people at this time, the US Department of Health and Human Services has floated plans to begin offering booster shots to a larger population sometime this fall.

So, what does this mean for the timing of your flu shot? If you’ve considered putting off the flu vaccine until there’s more information about if or when you’ll be eligible for a COVID booster, experts say you can rest assured that you don’t need to space out the shots. “There’s no contrary indication to receiving the influenza (flu) vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine at the same time. It is medically appropriate to do so if that is your choice,” William Schaffner, MD, medical director of the National Foundation For Infectious Diseases, told POPSUGAR.

Robert G. Lahita, MD, PhD, director of the Institute For Autoimmune and Rheumatic Disease at Saint Joseph Health and author of Immunity Strong, agreed. “If you’re brave, get them together the same week. Your immune system can absolutely handle both at the same time,” Dr. Lahita said, adding that you can expect the typical side effects of soreness, aches and pains, and fatigue. Dr. Lahita explained that, if you’d like to space the shots out, you certainly can — but if you make this choice, he recommends getting the booster shot first (if you’re eligible) because the COVID virus is more dangerous than the flu.

You may remember that, when the COVID-19 vaccines were first rolled out to the general public, experts recommended not getting any other vaccines within two weeks of the COVID shot. Dr. Schaffner explained that this was done out of an abundance of caution, but health officials no longer feel it’s necessary in order to ensure the safety of those receiving the COVID vaccine.

“Of course, we knew a great deal about safety from the clinical trials, but when you start using a vaccine in millions of people in the real world, then other things may crop up,” Dr. Schaffner said. “In order to study very carefully the side effect profile of the new COVID vaccines without complicating the data by administering other vaccines at the same time, the initial recommendation was that no other vaccine should be given within two weeks of giving a COVID-19 vaccine. Now that we have more safety data, this recommendation has been rescinded.”

Ultimately, the timing is far less important than making sure you get vaccinated. Dr. Schaffner noted that there’s an old vaccine adage: A vaccine postponed is often a vaccine never received. “Please, if you are not getting them at the same time, be sure you get both,” he said.

All About Jennifer Lawrence’s Husband, Cooke Maroney

Back in June 2018, Jennifer Lawrence was spotted hanging out with a mysterious man that the internet eventually determined to be New York City-based art gallerist Cooke Maroney. The couple soon married during a lavish October weekend in Rhode Island in 2019, though prior to the engagement they’d kept the relationship mostly out of the public eye.

So who, exactly, is Maroney, and how did an art gallery director catch the eye of one of Hollywood’s biggest stars? Below, a quick primer on Maroney and Lawrence’s relationship so far—and a peek into what their future together might hold.

Jennifer Lawrence Takes Her Beau Out For Dinner Tonight In New York City

Elder Ordonez / SplashNews.comSplash News

The couple is expecting their first child.

In September 2020, People confirmed that the 31-year-old Lawrence is pregnant with her first child. She was recently spotted walking through New York City in floral overalls and a leather bag, showing off her growing baby bump. Her official due date is not yet known.

Maroney and Lawrence had an October 2019 wedding in Rhode Island.

TMZ first reported that the low-key pair would wed in Rhode Island on Saturday, October 19. News of the nuptials came about a month after Maroney and Lawrence were spotted at a New York City marriage bureau, obtaining a license to wed.

In June of that year, the Oscar winner opened up on Catt Sadler’s NAKED With Catt Sandler podcast about wedding planning—and when she knew Maroney was the one.

“I definitely wasn’t at a place where I was like, ‘I’m ready to get married,’” she recalled. “I just met Cooke and I wanted to marry him. We wanted to marry each other. We wanted to commit fully. He’s my best friend so I want to legally bind him to me forever. And fortunately the paperwork exists for such a thing. It’s the greatest. You find your favorite person in the planet and you’re like you can’t leave. So I wanted to take that offer.”

It turns out TMZ was right. The two tied the knot at the Belcourt estate in Newport, Rhode Island, in front of an A-list guest list including Amy Schumer, Emma Stone, Bradley Cooper, Ashley Olsen, Adele, Kris Jenner, Sienna Miller, and Cameron Diaz.

Ahead of the wedding, the couple hosted an engagement party in New York City.

Lawrence and Maroney were photographed out in early May 2019, en route to the engagement party they threw for their family and friends in New York City. The appearance came after People reported in April that the couple was seen looking at venues in the city, possibly for that party or their actual wedding ceremony. A source said then that J.Law is a “family girl…I would be surprised if the wedding were not a fairly extensive family affair.”

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Page Six got more details on the engagement party: It was held at the River Café in Brooklyn, and the couple rented out the entire restaurant for the party. “It was fabulous!” an insider told the outlet. “There were tables set up everywhere—the dining room, the terrace room and the outdoor patio.” Lawrence’s good friend Emma Stone was among the guests, and Page Six reported that food included butlered hors d’oeuvres and Mandarin duck.

Maroney grew up in Vermont.

Maroney’s parents, James Maroney and Suki Fredericks, own an Oliver Hill Farm in Leicester, Vermont. According to Medium, his parents grew tired of raising their son in the city and decided to move further up north to start a farm. Before the move, Maroney’s father was an art dealer in Manhattan and previously served as the Head of American Paintings at Christie’s before trying to adapt to a more simplistic way of life. Maroney also has a younger sister named Annabelle.

He is an art gallerist.

Maroney followed in his father’s footsteps with art. He currently serves as the director of New York City’s Gladstone Gallery, which boasts a list of high-profile clients. According to The Cut, Maroney’s previously worked with painter Carroll Dunham and Björk’s ex-boyfriend, sculptor Matthew Barney. Before he worked at Gladstone, he worked at Gagosian gallery after he completed his NYU art history degree.

Maroney met Lawrence though a mutual friend.

Lawrence and Maroney were apparently introduced to each other by the actress’s best friend, Laura Simpson. “They met through Jen’s friend Laura….The relationship has been going on a few weeks. But they have been very private and careful not to be seen together,” a source told Page Six early in their relationship.

You probably won’t find much trace of him on social media.

Maroney appears totally absent from Facebook and Twitter. At the moment, he only has a private Instagram page that’s just shy of 2,000 followers.

From the beginning, he knew how to make Lawrence happy.

While Lawrence and Maroney don’t often speak publicly about their relationship, sources have repeatedly told tabloids that what they have is exceptional. “She is smiling like I have never seen her do with any of her previous boyfriends,” a source told People in August 2018.

Us Weekly, meanwhile, reported in January 2019 that Lawrence and Maroney were very committed. “Things between them are very serious,” a source told the outlet. “They definitely appear to be in it for the long haul.”

People reported in February 2019 that the two really work well together. “He’s a great guy,” a source told the outlet. “He’s smart and funny, and I think really keeps her on her toes and he doesn’t treat her like a celebrity like the other boyfriends did.”

I always knew I was different, but I had no idea why. By the time I was eight, I truly felt like something was wrong with me. I was always a moody kid, needed a lot of alone time, and was picked on by my cousins for being grouchy all the time.

When I was 10, my insomnia started, and that triggered my first bipolar episodes, although at that point I didn’t know what there was a name for them. No one talked about feelings or mental health in my house, and I didn’t want to tell my parents because I worried they’d think I was crazy (heck, I did).

Coping strategies hid my pain

I learned I had to hide my depressive episodes—and I did it well. I developed a defense mechanism by being a bubbly, approachable person. I pretended to be fun and laughed a lot in public while stowing away my dark feelings and the need to cry. I realized this was part of the reason I felt so worn out all the time, because after keeping up the facade of being someone else, I had to spend a lot of time alone to recharge. Yet when I was finally alone, dark and sad feelings quickly overcame me. Nobody knew what I was struggling with—not my teachers, boyfriend, or friends. It was incredibly draining to keep up the act, so I didn’t want to go to school and often skipped when I didn’t have it in me to pretend I was OK.

Because no one in my life knew the truth, no one was able to encourage me to get help.

This defense served me well over the years, in that it helped me develop relationships and friendships, and allowed me to keep a professional job. But it also really hurt me. Because no one in my life knew the truth, that also meant that no one was able to encourage me to get the help I really needed.

Starting a family

I got married in my early twenties, and kept my episodes hidden from my husband, too. I still didn’t even know what bipolar was, and I thought that if I told people how I actually felt—so depressed that I sometimes wanted to disappear—they’d think I was an awful person, because I had so much to be grateful for. That was especially true after I had my first two children. I cried constantly and couldn’t bond with my kids, and all the other moms I knew would say stuff like “this is the most beautiful and meaningful experience of my life.” Meanwhile, I was thinking things like, “I’m miserable and regret becoming a mom.” At the time I thought it was strictly postpartum depression (PPD), but now I think my undiagnosed bipolar was also a factor. In the end, my constant depressive periods took a toll on my marriage, and my husband and I got a divorce.

He refused to believe I was sick and said I was just being selfish. I again felt so alone.

In my early thirties, I married again and had two more children. Once again I suffered from terrible PPD. I had panic attacks in bed, and could never sleep because I was so busy worrying that I’d somehow harm my youngest child. I finally went to see a psychiatrist, who said I needed to be hospitalized for depression. My husband was completely opposed to the idea—he refused to believe I was sick and said I was just being selfish. Three months later, he left me.

A mental health crisis

I began seeing a psychiatrist regularly. He diagnosed me with depression and prescribed an antidepressant, which made me extremely manic: I went to the office at 4 am because I couldn’t sleep anyway, was hypersexual, and took on extra projects at work. When I told the doctor about my insomnia, he prescribed a sedative to take two or three times a day max. I found myself taking one every hour because I was so agitated. At my lowest, I was popping up to 20 pills in a day. Finally, I called my doctor and told him I felt like I wanted to jump out of my skin and run away from myself. He told me to go immediately to a psychiatric hospital. I’m so glad I actually listened.

Life-changing diagnosis

At the psychiatric hospital, I was sedated and evaluated. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings with emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). Rather than feeling shame from the stigma of being mentally ill, at that moment I felt such sweet relief—finally, there’s a name for what I’ve felt my whole life!

I was in the hospital for 10 days, and the medication I was given made me feel childlike, innocent, and unashamed. Being on the proper medication in the hospital allowed me to feel vulnerable enough to call and reach out to people. I told everyone about my diagnosis.

From the outside, I had everything together, but on the inside, I was completely falling apart.

My coworkers were shocked. They’d known me as a polished, hard-working people pleaser. From the outside, I looked like I had everything together, but what they couldn’t see was that on the inside, I was completely falling apart.

Both friends and family came to visit me in the hospital to make sure I was OK. I felt this incredible freedom knowing that I didn’t need to keep my secret anymore. Everyone knew I wasn’t perfect and that I had bipolar—and they still loved me. Even my second ex-husband told me he regretted how he handled things, and we’re friends now.

Finding support and community

My children went to live full-time with their dads so I could focus on my recovery. I took eight weeks off my job as a human resources manager.

With my doctor’s guidance, I tried several prescriptions, gave up drinking, made rigid routines around my sleep, and started cognitive-behavioral therapy to maintain my stability. My therapist suggested I try painting as a way to calm myself when I’m having an episode of anxiety and depression, and it really worked for me. I absolutely fell in love with the way painting allowed the inner child in me to run wild. I paint every day now. I still have my day job, but art has been a lifeline for me—one of the best tools in my tool belt of healthy coping mechanisms.

In 2019, Saenz invested in a small studio space for painting. She loves to create floral paintings with bright colors as they being her joy during periods of darkness

I also tried to join some support groups for people with bipolar, but I didn’t find a lot of other people who were in the same situation of being bipolar but still high-functioning enough to keep a professional job. So I decided to start Facebook and Instagram pages to honestly and openly share my journey, in hopes that I could find others like me, create a community, and trade resources. And it worked—I ended up getting DMs from people in all walks of life: a famous radio DJ, investment fund managers, lawyers, and so many others. I don’t go a day without getting contacted by someone telling me that they—or someone they love—is struggling.

We are sometimes each other’s lifeline in the form of a DM.

Now I’m 48, and I’ve been running my Facebook page for nine years and my Instagram for four. My online community is 40,000 people strong, filled with like-minded, bipolar individuals, or people who are affected by someone who has a bipolar diagnosis. We are sometimes each other’s lifeline in the form of a DM. We ask each other simple questions like Did you eat? Have you showered? Did you do one good thing for yourself today?

Moving forward with my illness

Today, I’m able to go weeks (and sometimes even several years) between manic episodes. I’m also now able to spot signs of the beginning of an episode. When that happens, I immediately reach out to my therapist to help settle me down and keep me from spiraling. Certain situations can trigger episodes as well. If I try to go out socially more than once a week, I can feel it happening. My body and mind tell me when I’m doing too much and not resting enough to recharge—the key for me is just listening to it.

I took two years off from dating, just to work on me, and I finally felt ready to jump in again earlier this year. On my first date with my now-boyfriend, I laid it all on the table and told him about my diagnosis and history. I expected him to run for the hills! But he said he saw me as a person who was honest, self-aware, and who liked who I was now. He and I have been together for eight months and are very much in love, and I feel better equipped to be in a relationship than I ever have before.

Looking back, it may have seemed intense that I told basically everyone I knew I had bipolar the minute I was diagnosed. But it was truly the best thing that I could’ve done. My honesty and vulnerability at the beginning of my treatment journey was immediately matched by the love and support of those around me. It’s that support that gave me the strength to tell the world, and to keep sharing my story. Hopefully that helps other people going through mental health issues to feel safe opening up about it, sans stigma or shame.

Lily Collins Got Married in a Magical Ralph Lauren Gown

Photography by Getty Images

The bride looked straight out of a fairytale in a hooded lace frock.

Lily Collins makes a stunning bride. On September 4, the Emily In Paris star wore Ralph Lauren to quietly wed director Charlie McDowell at a whimsical, woodsy Colorado destination. The actor donned a long-sleeve, high-neck white lace gown, complete with a hooded lace cape. C’est magnifique!

The formal hood worn by Collins is a signature design element for the American fashion house and has been worn by celebs before — who can forget Anne Hathaways’s hooded golden gown at the 2015 Met Gala, or Janelle Monáe’s hood of Swarovski crystals at the 2020 Oscars? The look is also reminiscent of the famously extravagant hooded costume Collins wore as Snow White in the 2012 film Mirror, Mirror.

The bride, known for her elegant, Audrey Hepburn-esque beauty, wore her hair in a sleek bun and sported minimal earth-toned makeup. The soft glam and classic silhouette she opted for, paired with the fairytale-like backdrop, exuded truly dreamy vibes. Collins took to Instagram to announce her nuptials, sharing wedding pictures of her and her new husband in a natural oasis surrounded by towering trees, rocky inclines and a free-flowing waterfall. The breathtaking venue was Colorado’s Dunton Hot Springs, a luxury resort nestled in an alpine valley with mountain views. Some might even say it’s better than Paris!

“I’ve never wanted to be someone’s someone more than I do yours, and now I get to be your wife. On September 4th, 2021 we officially became each other’s forever. I love you beyond,” Collins captioned one of her IG posts. “Never been happier,” she added in another. Tissue, anyone?

McDowell (or shall we say Mr. Lily Collins?) is a film and TV director, not to mention the son of actor Mary Steenburgen, who famously played the mom in Elf (NBD), among other iconic roles. The newlyweds began dating back in 2019, and their wedding day occurred nearly one year after Collins announced their engagement on Instagram on September 25, 2020.

Felicitations are in order for this truly adorable couple.

The Knick actor Clive Owen will take on the role of President Bill Clinton. Golden Globe-winning actress Edie Falco will play first lady Hilary Clinton. Margo Martindale has joined the cast as Lucianne Goldberg, a literary agent, along with actor Billy Eichner, Cobie Smulders, Blair Underwood, Mira Sorvino, Judith Light, and Taran Killam.

Michael Uppendahl, known for his work in Fargo, Mad Men, and American Horror Story, is directing and executive producing the series. He replaced Richard Shepard, who exited the series due to delays in filming, Deadline reported in September 2020.

American Horror Story actor Paulson spoke to Deadline about her upcoming role. “Totally challenging in a way that is very exciting to me as an actor, but it’s not super easy to live inside of it as a human being,” she said. “I think about something that Steve McQueen said to me when we were shooting 12 Years a Slave with him, how important it was for me to stand back from my own judgment of the character and to not sit in the space of judgment, and that it wouldn’t help me play the part, and it wouldn’t help me tell the story,” she said.

Despite the focus of the show this season, Monica Lewinsky has given Impeachment her seal of approval. In fact, she’s a producer on the series. She told Vanity Fair about being involved in the project:

I was hesitant and, truthfully, more than a little scared to sign on. But after a lengthy dinner meeting with Ryan [Murphy], I came to understand even more clearly how dedicated he is to giving a voice to the marginalized in all of his brilliant work. I’m privileged to work with him and the other talented people on the team, and I’m privileged to have this opportunity. People have been co-opting and telling my part in this story for decades. In fact, it wasn’t until the past few years that I’ve been able to fully reclaim my narrative; almost 20 years later. But I’m so grateful for the growth we’ve made as a society that allows people like me who have been historically silenced to finally reintroduce my voice to the conversation. This isn’t just a me problem. Powerful people, often men, take advantage of those subordinate to them in myriad ways all the time. Many people will see this as such a story and for that reason, this narrative is one that is, regretfully, evergreen.

Naomi Osaka Has Entered The Skincare Game

Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka can now add skincare guru to her resume. Meet KINLÒ, the tennis star’s new brand that was formulated specifically for darker skin tones and aims to begin a conversation about skin protection and skin cancer in communities of color while looking glowy and stunning every day. The name of the brand also pays homage to Osaka’s heritage, as “kin” and “lo” both mean “gold” in Japanese and Haitian Creole.

The initial launch includes an SPF, eye cream, mist, and lip balm, which are sure to become staples for anyone who wants on-the-go protection. Dr. Naana Boakye, the Dermatology Director of KINLÒ, is on board to make sure all the products are of the highest quality while also helping educate consumers on the importance of skin protection, particularly from sun damage.

For Osaka, including people of color in discussions around sun damage is incredibly important. “Through my personal experience and learnings, I have found that Black, Brown, and other melanated skin-toned communities are often an after-thought in the discussion and research surrounding sun care, including being excluded from clinical studies on skin cancer,” she said. “Additionally, there is a lack of sun protection products being made with melanated skin in mind. These points have all led me to create KINLÒ, a mission-first brand.”

Available exclusively on KINLÒ’s website, these products will become staples for anyone looking for effective skincare–both on and off the court.

Tara Reid Is Ready for Her Next Act

Tara Reid remembers watching E.T. as a kid and idolizing Drew Barrymore. “I wanted to be like her,” she says, revealing that the actress and beauty mogul inspired her to pursue a career in Hollywood. “Then, after American Pie, she came up to me at a sushi restaurant and said, ‘Oh my god, I love you!’ I was like, ‘I literally wouldn’t do what I do if it wasn’t for you.’”

Reid, 45, known for her cult repertoire of films over the years from The Big Lebowski to Josie and the Pussycats, and, of course, the aforementioned American Pie, is on the set of her latest project. She’s wearing a white puff-sleeve top and gold lamé skinny jeans, showing off a black structured cross-body bag adorned with colorful crystals. This time, the character she’s playing is herself. Her newest venture? A fashion collaboration with the designer Michael Kuluva. The bag, named “Kura”, a portmanteau of “Kuluva” and “Tara”, is both eco-friendly and sustainable, made from cactus leather and recycled cotton with Tara’s own specially curated semi-precious stones and crystals to decorate it. A launch is planned during New York Fashion Week.

“This is a really precious thing for us,” says Reid, who is joined by Kuluva on the set of the shoot. He adds: “We’re gonna dazzle you! When you carry the bag, you will have a little piece of Tara and I with you each time.” Kuluva’s label, Tumbler & Tipsy, has previously shown at NYFW back in 2012, with Kendall Jenner modeling on the runway.

A month ago, Reid is excitedly telling me about this new project from her home in L.A. This time, she’s in a pink Chanel jacket and “very comfortable pants” (which I can’t see on Zoom), fresh off filming Shark Week antics for the Discovery Channel, including swimming with actual sharks. “The sharks were, like, 30-feet long,” she says. “They’re huge!” In case you forgot, Reid has plenty of experience dealing with the frightening fish from playing April Wexler during her Sharknado days. But that was then. Now, she’s sitting pretty.

“Everything’s falling in place now, and thank gosh,” she says excitedly. “It took a long time.” She’s not just talking bags and crystals, though it’s clear that she really is very happy about both of these things, positively beaming through the screen as she talks, even bringing the stones close to the camera so I can see them clearly. “The best time in your life is when you can actually say that there are not enough hours in a day.”

By the end of 2021, Reid anticipates that she’ll have several film projects out in the world, almost all of which she’ll be producing and directing, with studios like Paramount and stars like Rebel Wilson signed on. Friends are asking her if they can be in her movies again, and she’s been speaking with Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins “for whatever she has in mind.” Though production includes a lot of moving parts—financing, distribution, assembling a cast—Reid is up for the challenge. “It’s a real game trying to figure it all out,” she says.

Before Reid became famous for her roles in ’90s and early aughts classics (as Bunny, Vicky, Melody, and April), she starred in Saved by the Bell: The New Class. It was pretty much the only thing she’d done prior to landing The Big Lebowski. “That was ridiculous,” she recalls of auditioning for the role in the seminal Coen brothers movie. “Charlize Theron and Liv Tyler were there; I was like, ‘I’m never gonna get this part.’ Then they gave me the offer. It so unexpected.” Next came Urban Legend and American Pie; a three-picture deal with Universal. “Boom boom,” she says, conveying the swiftness of it all. “We got lucky.”

For Reid, the audition process hasn’t exactly gotten any easier over the years. “They expect so much from you because you’re famous already,” she says. “The worst is when you’ve flopped it [the audition] and you know you were good.” In the past, Reid has requested second auditions. “I didn’t get the part necessarily, but they would come back and say, ‘Well, she tried; she had a lot of nerve—in a good way.’” Say what you want about Tara Reid, but the woman has guts.

She’s also one of the actresses who, owing to her rise in fame during the dawn of the millennium, was subjected to the intense glare and scrutiny of the paparazzi. “You don’t know what they’re going to say or what picture they’re going to show,” she says. The O.C.’s Mischa Barton, a fellow teen starlet of the same era, recently penned an article about the press harassment she received. And Britney Spears has found herself back in the spotlight as she tries to fight her conservatorship. “What [Britney Spears] is going through, it’s heartbreaking,” says Reid, who has shown her support for the singer in recent Instagram posts. “I’ve never heard of anything like it. She’s still going through it, and it’s heartbreaking.”

Reid credits social media for allowing big-name celebrities to finally stick up for themselves. “It makes a difference,” she says. “Before it was cool to make fun of someone. People are watching their words more carefully. I think it’s great to give a positive spin on everyone. People deserve that.” If Reid could have her way, everyone would give out one compliment a day to create a chain reaction of good moods.

Perhaps this benevolent behavior is why Reid has amassed a loyal fanbase—who have affectionately dubbed her “Cult Queen” as a reference to her cult status. Cult Queen also happens to be the name of Reid’s other venture: a collection of sunglasses, complete with crystal-adorned croakies.

Of all the films Reid has starred in, Josie and the Pussycats remains her all-time favorite. “I had lunch with Rachael [Leigh Cook] recently,” she says, referring to her co-star in the titular role. The pair reminisced about how excited they were about the film, which bombed at the box office before becoming a cult classic (Reid is a Cult Queen, mind you). What’s more, the film is now viewed as being ahead of its time for its satirical comments on capitalism and commercialism. “People didn’t understand it,” reflects Reid. “Now there’s Instagram, Twitter… they all get it.”

Looking back at her career, Reid has no regrets. “Everything in my life is meant to be,” she says. “There’s been good times, bad times, whatever times. They were right times. I’m at the best part of my journey, and I can’t wait to see where it goes.”

Back on set, the conversation flows from how and where to wear Reid’s bag (across the body or around the wrist—it’s a day bag and a night bag!), the protective element of crystals (Reid says they have centered her and made her feel healthier and happier), and why there’s such a palpable nostalgia for the ’90s and 2000s right now.

“People in the ’90s are older now and they’re realizing what they miss and what made them happy,” offers Reid. “You feel good!” interjects Kuluva, whose favorite Reid film by far is American Pie. “[It] brings you back to a time in your life when you’re carefree.” So, how about those American Pie 5 rumors? “Who knows,” starts Reid, “I think we’d all like to go back to it. If it happens, it happens, but if it doesn’t, we’re all moving on.”

Masha’s Mushroom is the upcoming film Reid will produce and star in alongside Vivica A. Fox that seems to have garnered the most press as of late. “Super trippy” and “a bit scary,” Reid plays Masha, a mother who is organizing her daughter’s birthday when things become rather hallucinatory. It’ll be the first of five films, in a similar vein to the franchises Reid has been in before. “The story can keep moving on and on; it really has legs,” she says.

But before she can grace any more red carpets, Reid needs to learn how to walk in heels again. “I’m not even joking,” she laughs, explaining how she wore Christian Louboutins to a friend’s recent birthday and struggled to walk the next day. Her solution: wear heels around the house for at least an hour each day to get back into the proverbial swing of things. Rest assured, when she has mastered those lofty heights once more, the pair in question will go great with her new Kura bag.

Resale Is the Future of Fashion

    Photography by Getty Images

The launch of H&M’s new resale initiative is more proof that second-hand shopping is changing the retail landscape.

The resale market is poised to surpass fast fashion sales within 10 years.

Yes, you read that correctly. According to Doug Stephens, founder and president of retail industry consultancy Retail Prophet, “The explosion in resale fashion, driven by brands like The Real Real, Poshmark and others, positions resale to overtake fast fashion within a decade.”

In fact, according to online retailer ThredUp’s 2020 report, resale is predicted to be valued at $64 billion in four years. And now, an unlikely retailer is making a splashy entrance into the resale market alongside scrappier sites like Depop and Poshmark. Fast fashion mecca H&M just launched H&M Rewear, a resale platform where people can buy and sell items from any brand.

So how did thrifting go from a casual trip to Value Village into a full-blown fashion frenzy?

For one, we’re in the era of conscious consumerism. In the last five years, the number of young buyers who prefer to purchase from sustainable brands has increased from 57 to 72 percent according to ThredUp.

Gen-Z and millennial shoppers have not only gravitated towards retailers focused on sustainability, but have also embraced thrifting. Many experts attribute this shift towards second-hand shopping to the environment younger shoppers have grown up in — climate change is a topic this demographic has heard about for years, and supporting eco-friendly brands and thrifting allows them to feel they are contributing to the movement.

Saving money has also become a priority for Gen-Z buyers, as “1 in 2 consumers care more about seeking value in their purchases than before the pandemic,” per ThredUp’s 2021 resale report. Stephens attributes this to the financial realities confronted by many young consumers, as they now “face unique economic challenges relative to previous generations, as they have suffered not one but two major economic crises in their formative income-earning years.”

However, it might be the uniqueness of thrifting that’s the biggest motivator for some Gen-Z shoppers. Second-hand shopping is fuelled by “the thrill of the find,” and can earn its wearer a certain cachet. Thrifting has become almost a lifestyle — “Oh this? It’s vintage” feels emblematic of the way many young shoppers express their identity. As Stephens puts it, “resale is no longer merely a cyclical fad but a fashion mainstay for a new generation of consumers.”

While some labels have launched clothing rental programs like California brand Vince, and others are integrating recycled materials into their products like Hunter Boots and Allbirds, resale has outpaced them all in a rapidly growing list of traditional retailers (such as Etsy, Farfetch and now H&M) embracing second-hand clothing.

H&M Rewear, the Swedish conglomerate’s new resale initiative, rolled out exclusively in Canada on September 7. Similar to other resale platforms, individuals can buy and sell any piece of clothing from any brand, including H&M. For payment, sellers have the choice between receiving a direct deposit or an H&M gift card with an added 20 percent value.

This move by the brand no doubt signals a yearning for a piece of the fast-growing resale market, Stephens says, noting a desire from fast fashion retailers to “counter their negative impact on the environment by promoting resale and re-use” with programs like these.

And it’s not hard to understand why. Fast fashion and fashion resale are naturally opposites — where one works to reduce environmental pollution and waste, the other directly fuels it with clothing that is not crafted for longevity. As brands like H&M have pioneered and perfected the fast fashion system, they shoulder responsibility for its environmental impact. “The fact is fast fashion companies need to produce less,” says Sage Paul, executive and artistic director of Indigenous Fashion Week Toronto, who calls programs like this one “Band-Aid solutions for the mess” fast fashion brands helped create.

That being said, as a fast fashion leader, H&M has been attempting to improve its environmental footprint for many years. In 2010 the retailer launched its Conscious Collection which uses 50 percent “sustainably sourced materials.” Since then, the company has also vowed to become climate positive by 2040 which includes “avoiding harmful chemicals, fossil-based energy sources and single-use packaging”. They’re also making the switch to using entirely sustainable fabrics by 2030 such as Circulose® made from 100 percent discarded cotton and Vegea™, a fake leather created from grapes. They’ve also set up clothing recycling bins in stores, invested in technologies like the cotton recovery startup Renewcell and created a supply chain sharing platform Treadler. H&M has even named its former sustainability chief as CEO.

Sarah Jay, founder of All Earthlings Consulting and conceiver of the documentary Toxic Beauty, acknowledges the brand’s strides in terms of sustainability despite seeing H&M’s foray into resale as “a clear attempt at monopoly and an acknowledgment of the sector’s potential for profitability.” Jay says: “Compared to their fast fashion peers, H&M is undoubtedly leading the way in terms of textile innovation. They are making adjustments and improvements. Let’s hope that their resale platform leads to a broader shift in their business model, the definitive end of fast fashion and the excessive use of virgin fibres to create new garments.”

The truth is there may be no tidy solution to the question of how to balance our desire to shop and love of fashion with an increasingly urgent need to take care of our planet. While consuming more mindfully is more important and popular than ever, shoppers have to continue keeping brands accountable about their environmental footprints — and whether their sustainable initiatives are truly genuine or just greenwashing. But, producing less is a good start.

The People Harassing Sloane Stephens Over the US Open Aren’t “Fans” — They’re Racist Bullies

After Sloane Stephens lost her third round US Open match on Sept. 3, she logged on to Instagram to find over two thousand messages of abuse and anger. She typically strives to keep her platform positive, but this time, Stephens spoke out. “I am human,” she wrote in an Instagram Story. Though the messages were “hard to read,” Stephens said she felt compelled to share some of them so people could see “what it’s like after a loss.”

The screenshots that followed, themselves captured and saved after Stephens’s Story disappeared, featured enraged criticisms of Stephens’s on-court play in between graphic racist and misogynistic insults. There were blatant physical threats, warnings that one person would “destroy” Stephens’s leg. “I hope you enjoyed your last moments on the court today,” they said.

In her Story, Stephens seemed to imply that this is normal for her after a loss. Other Black athletes know the feeling. Soccer players, for example, are a target for racist abuse both online and on the field. English national team players Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho faced an outpouring of hateful messages after missing penalty kicks in the Euro 2020 final this past summer. Basketball and baseball players are targets. So are Olympic champion gymnasts like Gabby Douglas. She’s proof that Black athletes are targeted even after big wins; so is US men’s national soccer team member Mark McKenzie. Win or lose, doesn’t matter. Grand Slams, medals, multiple championships to your name — doesn’t matter. If you’re a Black athlete who didn’t perform up to someone’s standard, this is what the “fans” will do.

And while we’re on that point, let’s make something clear. Messaging athletes for the express purpose of insulting them — no matter how upset, angry, or disappointed you are over their performance — does not make you a passionate fan. It makes you a bully. And an entitled one at that, because let’s see you go out there and try to make a penalty kick in the biggest tournament of you life, or try to close out a match against a former world No. 1. Cyberbullying athletes over inevitable shortcomings and failures is absurd when most of us couldn’t dream of accomplishing half of what they do on a daily basis. And what’s the point? You think don’t already feel awful about whatever they did wrong? You think they don’t already feel worse than you ever could?

“People use the umbrella of sports fandom as a cover for their hatred, as though one less-than-perfect performance justifies this type of abuse.”

When you add in racism, it makes these insults more pointed — and yet, at the same time, chillingly impersonal. These slurs are intended strip Black athletes of their accolades. They’re intended as a reminder: that a Black athlete is, ultimately, nothing more than their race, and their race makes them less. It doesn’t matter that you’ve won Grand Slams, played in the World Cup, or stood atop an Olympic podium with the world at your feet.

People use the umbrella of sports fandom as a cover for their hatred, as though one less-than-perfect performance justifies this type of abuse. They can’t be given that excuse, not as this pattern continues across sports. I remember watching that Euro 2020 Final, Italy vs. England, looking at the English players who missed their PKs and knowing exactly what was about to happen to them. It felt inevitable, but it’s not — it’s the result of all of us, anyone who calls themselves a sports fan, allowing toxic, racist behavior to flourish under the guise of fandom. That moment was a wakeup call: we shouldn’t expect this type of behavior, because to expect it, to be used to it, is a half-step away from tolerating it.

“I am human,” Sloane Stephens said. Meaning: she won’t win every match. Meaning: there is a real, breathing person on the receiving end of that racist, misogynistic aggression. Athletes are not robots, they’re not perfect, and they’re not society’s outlet for racism and hatred. A true fan supports their favorite teams and athletes through losses and disappointments. A bully turns on them the moment they falter, using the type of insults they know will cut deepest. Close the app, put down your phone, and ask yourself if you know the difference.

The Circle Season 3 Is Here. Meet the Cast (and the Catfishes).

Reality TV fans can rejoice—The Circle is back for a third season on Netflix.

Season 3 of the original influencer-inspired game, in which a group of strangers fight it out for a chance at popularity and $100,000, will most definitely surprise viewers. And while the cast doesn’t find out whether they’re speaking to a real person or a catfish until the very end of the competition, the lucky audience is in on every deceit from the beginning. It’s time to pick a side and place your bets on who the best influencer will be in this season’s Circle.

Here’s what you need to know about The Circle Season 3’s cast members, from the undeniable Big Nick Energy to some terrifyingly good catfish.

    Kai, 28, Nashville

    Playing as herself.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Hailing from Nashville, now located in Los Angeles, singer-songwriter Kai is about to be an instant favorite in The Circle Season 3. After attending Nashville School of the Arts, Kai launched her music career, and already has a real-life Instagram following of over 10,000 people. Kai somehow manages to remain levelheaded throughout her time on the show, and her Circle strategy can be best described as authentic—catfish need not apply.

    Ruksana, 35, New Jersey

    Playing as herself.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Wife and mother-of-one Ruksana has to be one of the most likable contestants The Circle has ever seen. From her budding friendships with Kai and Daniel, to the sage advice she’s able to offer her fellow influencers, Ruksana is a joy to watch. Proving that family comes first, Ruksana has a YouTube channel with her husband, and manages an Instagram profile for her daughter. She also previously appeared on Family Feud, and it seems likely this won’t be the last we see of her on our screens.

    Calvin, 30, Miami

    Playing as himself.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Expect to be charmed by multi-hyphenate Calvin, who just so happens to be a private chef, a personal trainer, and a nutritionist. The vegetarian calls Miami home, and viewers are bound to notice that Calvin is pretty easy on the eyes. In fact, he may even have caught the attention of a fellow contestant, so expect flirting galore. Bookings for his cuisine are about to go through the roof.

    Michelle, 52, South Carolina

    Playing as herself.

This content is imported from TikTok. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Comedian Michelle makes quite the impact on her fellow contestants by taking a firm stance on (checks notes) kissing dogs on the mouth. The stand-up has more than 755,000 followers on TikTok, and she describes her routines as having a “hint of naughty” in them. But Michelle’s time in The Circle isn’t just about the one-liners, especially when it comes to exposing catfish. Prepare for some shocks and surprises.

    Matthew, 25, Long Island

    Playing as “Ashley.”

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Entering The Circle as a catfish, 25-year-old Matthew decided to play the game using his best friend’s identity. According to his Instagram account, in real life Matthew is epileptic, a baby vegan, a personal trainer, and “offended by oatmeal raisin cookies posing as chocolate chip.” Despite partaking in the game as a catfish, Matthew’s, or should I say Ashley’s, journey feels pretty damn relatable.

    Nick, 27, Seattle

    Playing as himself.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Get ready for some Big Nick Energy. Season 3’s self-proclaimed heartthrob stirs up plenty of drama in The Circle, especially when it comes to his romantic inclinations. Currently based in Austin, Texas, Nick enters the show as a drummer, despite being a product manager at Microsoft. After luring the other contestants into a false sense of security, Nick proves just how good he is at networking. And if his Instagram is anything to go by, he enjoys posing topless quite a bit, too.

    Daniel, 20, Florida

    Playing as himself.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Even though he’s the youngest player in the game, Daniel’s hot takes will have you howling every episode. Even better is the fact that many of Daniel’s lightning-fast quips are laced with self-deprecating truths, showing that it’s possible to be both vulnerable and hilarious while battling strangers for $100,000. His Twitter account boasts, “I almost failed a class due to the High School Musical reunion.” Same, TBH.

Ava, 25, Los Angeles (and her sister, Chanel)

    Playing as Ava.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Joining The Circle as a duo, sisters Ava and Chanel are hoping to use their joint social media prowess to clamor their way to the penthouse. If Ava looks familiar to you, that’s because she was a contestant on Season 22 of America’s Next Top Model. Her sister, Chanel, is a writer, producer, and actress, who helps manage Ava’s career. Talk about double trouble.

The Circle launches on Netflix on September 8, with new episodes dropping on September 15 and 22, with the finale set for September 29.

These Are the September 2021 Beauty Launches We’re Looking Forward To

    Photography courtesy of Ouai

Including a reformulated vitamin C serum and hotly anticipated candles.

As we leave behind the sunny, sweltering days of summer, there’s plenty to look forward to for fall, especially where beauty products are concerned. There are fragrances that stir up the imagination, mood-boosting body washes for our shower routines, and much more. These are the September 2021 beauty launches you need on your radar.

    Paco Rabanne Phantom

Your fragrance wardrobe is about to get a whole lot cooler. Phantom, the new scent from Paco Rabanne, taps into technology to create a feel-good fragrance. Perfumers used a combination of AI and neuroscience to carefully select ingredients based on which ones had emotional benefits. The resulting scent brings together a blend of lavender, Italian lemon, vetiver and woody vanilla. Also, did we mention that it’s shaped like a robot?!

    L’Occitane Youth Hand Cream Serum-in-Cream

Dropping temperatures means that you’ll be reaching for hand cream on the regular, but you don’t want anything too rich and decadent just yet. L’Occitane lends a helping hand with the Youth Hand Cream Serum-in-Cream. In addition to nourishing hands, nails and cuticles, it also protects them from visible signs of aging with the help of skin-brightening hibiscus flower acid, shea butter and immortelle essential oil cream.

Drunk Elephant C-Firma Fresh Day Serum

Drunk Elephant’s bestselling C-Firma Fresh just got a formula makeover. It still contains the original antioxidant complex made up of 15 percent l-ascorbic acid, 0.5 percent ferulic acid, and 1 percent vitamin E, but to boost its potency and keep it fresher for longer, the new formula separates the ascorbic acid in from the liquid serum in powder form, which you have to mix before use. The longer shelf life means you can continue to use it at least six months after mixing.

    Miss Dior Eau de Parfum

“The intention was to inspire hope and joy,” says perfumer Francois Demachy over a Zoom call from Grasse, France. Demachy is calling from a field of roses (literally) to discuss the newest iteration of Miss Dior Eau de Parfum, a fresh floral scent whose goal is to provoke an emotional reawakening. “We’ve been shut in and confined to small places for so long,” he says. “With this perfume, we are going for a feeling of reopening and reconnecting with nature.” Demachy hopes that the new Miss Dior, with its bright and inevitably optimistic notes of Centifolia rose, iris and peony balanced out with musk, tonka bean, and sandalwood to ensure that the scent never becomes overpoweringly sweet, will make its wearer feel like, at long last, they are “able to breathe again.” —Souzan Michael Galway

    REN Evercalm Redness Relief Serum

Part of Ren’s Evercalm range developed for sensitive or sensitized skin, the Redness Relief Serum was recently updated with a more efficacious, vegan formula, and eco-conscious packaging. Featuring white mushroom extract, the creamy, skin-soothing serum targets six signs of skin sensitivity: redness, tightness, itchiness, burning, discomfort, dryness and flakiness.

    Ouai Candles

Celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin has been fielding requests for candles ever since hair and body care brand Ouai got into the fragrance game. Ask and you shall receive! Ouai just debuted two candles inspired by their signature scents, Melrose Place and North Bondi. Melrose Place has notes of champagne, pink peppercorn, berry, peony, rose, sandalwood and musk, while North Bondi features bergamot, apple blossom, Italian lemon, freesia and amber. Made using a coconut and soy blend, they’re poured into chic concrete vessels that you can reuse.

    Weleda Aroma Essentials

A better shower routine for fall? Yes, please. Weleda has a new range of mood-enhancing shower gels and creamy body washes. Harnessing the aromatherapy benefits of essential oils like rose, lavender and bergamot, they nourish the skin and provide a complete sensorial experience in the shower. The line-up includes two body washes and a shower gel — Relax, Pamper and Energy.

5 Things to Know About Emma Raducanu, the 18-Year-Old Who Has Stunned at the US Open

Two months after Emma Raducanu made history in her Wimbledon debut — becoming the youngest British woman ever to make the tournament’s Round of 16 — she’s captured the world’s attention yet again. After defeating American Shelby Rogers in straight sets, the 18-year-old tennis phenom became the youngest woman to earn a spot in the quarterfinals of the US Open since 2001 — and to think, just a few months ago, she was wrapping up her final exams in London.

How does Raducanu juggle it all? Her success on the court comes down to her mentality off the court. “The way that I’m approaching my matches is each time I’m thinking to myself, ‘Why not?’ Like today, I was like, ‘Someone has to be in the second week, why not me?'” Raducanu said during her Wimbledon run. “I’m just trying to stay here as long as possible.” While already impressive, Raducanu’s tennis career is just getting started. Read more about the rising star ahead, and be sure to tune into the US Open on Sept. 8, when she’ll vie for a spot in the semifinals.

Kylie Jenner Confirms Her Pregnancy With A Sweet Instagram Video Showing Her Growing Bump

Although reports have swirled for weeks that Kylie Jenner has a little one on the way, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star waited until the perfect moment to officially confirm the news. With a touching video compilation posted to Instagram, the 24-year-old model and businesswoman shared that she and rapper-producer Travis Scott are expecting their second child.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

The clips include the immediate moments after Jenner saw her positive pregnancy test, rushing to share the news with a clearly ecstatic Scott, who scoops down to kiss her belly. Fans are also given an intimate peek into Jenner’s ultrasound sessions with her doctor, as well as a scene in which Jenner and Scott’s first child, Stormi, toddles up to Jenner’s mother, Kris, and reveals the news with a set of sonograms. “Stormi, we’re going to have a baby!” Kris says. “This is one of the happiest days of my life.” The final clip depicts a particularly touching tableau: Stormi and her mother stand against a white wall as Stormi gives her mother’s belly a happy kiss.

Jenner and Scott officially split in October 2019 but are committed to co-parenting Stormi and the new baby. “[Kylie] has been wanting to give Stormi a sibling for a while,” a source told People. “She loves being a mom. She is thrilled that she and Travis are pregnant again. She has been enjoying her pregnancy in private. She has only spent time with close friends and family.”

In April 2019, Jenner revealed she was eager to have more children. During an Instagram Live, she told close friend Stassie Karanikolaou that she wanted as many as “seven kids down the line, but not right now.”

Now that she’s showed her growing bump to the world, friends and fans alike are overwhelming the family with love. “this is so beautiful my blessed angel sister,” Kourtney Kardashian commented on the announcement video. “Awwwww,” wrote Kim Kardashian.
