Jennifer Lopez Just Got the Most Gorgeous Blunt Curtain Bangs

You know how there are some people out there in the world that can magically suit ANY hair color, length or style? Well, I think it’s safe to say that Jennifer Lopez is one of those super-humans. Seriously, the woman has worked so many hairstyles from a wavy bob to XXL hair extensions — and never fails to look uh-mazing.

Her go-to hair stylist, Chris Appleton, is often behind JLo’s most iconic looks, including this 90s bombshell hair — that I’ve often tried (and failed) to recreate. This time, however, Chris did something totally different with JLo’s hair…’Blunt curtain bangs’ and I’m not exaggerating when I say it might be my favorite of her hairstyles to date.

Keeping the rest of her caramel lengths long and straight, Chris added a diagonally cut sweeping fringe to both sides of her parting, giving that “curtain” effect.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen curtain bangs make an appearance on our Insta feed. With celebrities like Priyanka Chopra and Alexa Chung embracing the look, it’s a style that’s caught our attention before thanks to its ability to softly frame the face and give a flattering boost of volume.

Don’t just take my word for it, though. Let’s all just take a moment to appreciate JLo and her stunning new bangs…

Drake and his ex Sophie Brussaux welcomed Adonis in October 2017. Last March, Drake shared the first photo of himself with Adonis. He wrote an candid caption to the world as society entered into quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic:

What is most important for you right now is to connect to your own inner light. This will create the biggest opening of all. Trust that you have all of the power within to make this happen, and in order to do that connect to the people and things that bring you a lot of joy. When the mind starts to move into overthinking or fear, shift your attention right away to something bright. It doesn’t matter what has happened in the past or what is happening around us now, you can always make the choice to break free of the wheel of suffering and panic and open up to your own light. We are powerful manifestors , so once you make the choice in the moment to shift your awareness to something good, it will show you in your reality. Be conscious, especially right now of fears coming in from others, and recognize that not everything should be held by you. Laughter is your best medicine, but tears can also be a powerful release. Let go of any judgment you may have around that. Remember that you are never alone, and if you need to be reminded of that ask for support and it will show up. Everything comes down to intention, and even though there are conflicting energies circling around us you must KNOW…It will rebuild. But in order for that to happen, you have to do exactly that. Trust. You have the biggest heart and that is your greatest gift. It’s impossible to always control your surroundings, but when you shift the focus to how you want to feel, everything will conspire to assist you. I love and miss my beautiful family and friends and I can’t wait for the joyful day when we are all able to reunite. Until then please keep your lights on. 🤍

Drake first admitted he was the father of Adonis back in June 2018 in his track “Emotionless.” He rapped, “Look at the way we live / I wasn’t hidin’ my kid from the world / I was hidin’ the world from my kid / From empty souls who just wake up and looked to debate / Until you starin’ at your seed, you can never relate / Breakin’ news in my life, I don’t run to the blogs / The only ones I wanna tell are the ones I can call.”

Watch BTS’ Mesmerizing Debut ‘Butter’ Performance at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards

BTS generously gave the Billboard Music Awards their debut live performance of their new summer song “Butter”—and naturally, it was among their most impressive work. From the mesmerizing, perfectly-synched choreography to the sharp fashion and feel-good vocals, this is V, Jungkook, Jimin, J-Hope, RM, Suga, and Jin at their best, raising everyone’s spirits through music.

The boys spoke to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe ahead of the Billboard Music Awards about “Butter.” RM said the pandemic was the impetus behind the new track: “Firstly, we never actually expected that we were going to release another single, but the virus is getting longer and longer so we thought we need another summer song,” RM said. “We thought we needed another summer number, and ‘Butter’ was perfectly fit for that. And now we’re here.”

The K-pop group told Lowe, via an interpreter, that “it’s been a while since we actually released a summer song. I think not since ‘Fire,’ almost. We wanted to create a song that’s really upbeat, that’s a really summer song that, as you said, it makes people happy and go out and dance. That’s what we want to do. We wanted to have a summer song that can heal and console people. That’s why we chose this song and that’s why we decided to release this song. This is a really fun song so when we finished recording it, we all listened to it together. Then we were saying to each other, ‘This is so great. This is such a fun song.’ Now, of course, we’ve heard it a lot, maybe too much. Actually, when we hear the song the most is when we’re doing our choreo practice. That’s when we actually hear the song.”

Simone Biles’s Leotard Confirms She’s the Greatest of All Time as She Nails Historic Vault

Simone Biles is proudly embracing her status as one of the greatest gymnasts the world has ever seen. During the 2021 GK US Classic on May 22, Biles made history as she nailed a Yurchenko double pike on vault — a skill no woman ever attempted in previous competitions. Such a historic event called for a memorable leotard to match, and Simone wore one with an appropriate “GOAT” message.

The long-sleeve rhinestone-encrusted one-piece comes from GK Elite athleticwear, the brand behind apparel worn by other standout gymnasts, like Laurie Hernandez and Katelyn Ohashi. Eagle-eyed fans will notice a goat displayed on Biles’s back, representing her status as the “greatest of all time.” This symbol also hints at her post-Olympic plans, when she’ll be taking the Gold Over America Tour (GOAT) to empower the next generation of women in athletics. Get a closer look at Biles’s leotard — and her unforgettable vault — in the photos and video ahead.

In ELLE‘s May cover story, Taylor-Joy spoke about the past few years of projects she’s had, leading up to her award-winning turn in Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit. Specifically, she talked about an important friendship she formed during filming for Emma (2020), with actress Mia Goth.

“I had been working back to back—just before Emma, I’d done two projects at the same time, and I was going through some emotional relationship stuff,” Taylor-Joy says. “So at the beginning of 2019, I was just really broken and frightened of everything, and Mia and I were driving back from rehearsal. I turned to her and said, ‘I think I’m going to quit acting. I don’t think I can do this.’ And I’ve never seen Mia look so worried in my life. She was like, ‘But…that’s what you do. You can’t not…what are you talking about?’ I was like, ‘I think I need to back out now and just let it be and try to take care of my heart.’ And she was like, ‘No, that would be really bad. You can’t not have the thing that is your oxygen.’ I’m really glad she said that.”

Simone Biles Just Debuted Her New Floor Routine, and It’s as Good as You’d Imagine

Simone Biles took the floor at the 2021 GK US Classic on May 22 like she’d never left. It was the first time she competed since the 2019 World Championships, and she graced us with a routine choreographed by Sasha Farber, her former DWTS partner. He visited Biles back in April to “clean up” the choreography, and it’s a performance set to techno music. Though she put her hands down on her last tumbling pass — an uncharacteristic mistake showcasing she is in fact human — the routine still received a solid 14.250 because of her high level of difficulty.

Biles’s floor routine featured signature skills named after her: a triple-twisting double backflip and a double layout half. It also featured a distinct part of her choreography that she’s done in her floor routines since 2015: a voice says “Oh!” mid-song, and she puts her hand in front of her face as if shocked.

To make it even better, Biles’s leotard was decorated with a literal rhinestone goat on the back. Watch the showstopping performance above. If all goes as planned, she’ll be heading overseas this summer to represent the US on the women’s Olympic gymnastics team, and we can’t wait to see this again at the Tokyo Games. The GOAT has returned!

Travis Barker Calls Kourtney Kardashian ‘the Love of My Life’ in New Post of Family Disneyland Trip

Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian are very much together—they’ve made that much clear at this point. They’ve even reportedly talked about getting engaged.

On Friday, Barker made his affection for Kardashian known—again—on Instagram. In the comments of a post on Barker’s grid, he wrote “with the love of my life” after Kardashian posted happiest.”

“Happiest Place On Earth 🌍,” he wrote in the caption of the Disneyland slideshow, which featured his daughter, Alabama, his son, Landon, and his stepdaughter, Atiana De La Hoya.

A source told People in April that things are going very well for the couple, and that Barker especially loves the time he gets to spend with Karadashian.

“Kourtney still seems very happy with Travis. He is very into her. He constantly gives her compliments and attention. You can tell he is thrilled to be dating her,” the source said. “Kourtney is soaking it all up and enjoying life.”

For Kardashian’s birthday, Barker gave her a giant floral arrangement. “Tulips and gardenias are my favorite flowers,” she wrote alongside a photo of the gift. “My entire house smells yummy.”

captioned the slideshow of her birthday post with the following message:

“FUCKING LOVE YOU! 🖤YOU’RE A BLESSING TO THIS WORLD HAPPY BIRTHDAY @kourtneykardash.”

Kardashian shares three children with her ex, Scott Disick, who is reportedly struggling with her relationship with Barker.

“It’s uncomfortable for Scott to see Kourtney in a serious relationship, although he knew this day would come,” a source told E!. “He is glad she is happy, but it’s definitely been hard on him. He doesn’t like to bring it up and it’s a weird convo for him. At one point, the family was really encouraging Scott and Kourtney to try the relationship again and it’s a bit of an eye opener for him, that it’s truly never going to happen.”

Simone Biles Really Can Fly: Watch Her Incredible New Vault in Action

Simone Biles debuted her new vault, a Yurchenko double pike, during the second session of the 2021 GK US Classic (after her high-flying floor performance). It was her first competition since the 2019 World Championships where she won her record fifth world all-around gold medal and officially became the most decorated gymnast in World Championship history.

This new skill, a roundoff onto the springboard connected to a back handspring onto the vault and two backflips in a piked position, is one that no woman has ever attempted in competition. Biles received a massive 16.100 for her performance and is planning on competing the vault at the Tokyo Olympics upon her qualification (though she’s basically a shoo-in for the Games this summer). When landed successfully, it will be named after her in the FIG Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Code of Points, marking her fifth name-bearing skill.

I was really nervous chalking up,” Biles said, according to ESPN, when she showcased the vault during practice on May 21. “I was like, ‘It’s OK, I’ve done this so many times.’ I’ve been doing it for months now. So I felt prepared and I knew I was prepared, it was just the initial landing out there in the arena.” Here she is, seen in the video above, breaking barriers like she always does. Are you even surprised?

Emilia Clarke Stuns in a Sheer Polka-Dot Dress at the ‘Rare Beasts’ Premiere

Remember movie premieres? On Friday night, Emilia Clarke attended the premiere of Billie Piper’s new movie, Rare Beasts, in London. On the reportedly socially distanced red carpet, Clarke wore a floor-length, stunning sheer polka-dot dress with a mock turtleneck. She paired the look with bright red heels.

She was joined on the carpet by Doctor Who actress Jenna Coleman.

In a review for The Guardian, Peter Bradshaw writes that Piper’s new movie is a new kind of romcom.

“The movie screeches when it should soothe; where the heroine should find love, she finds absence; where she should show feminist solidarity, she confesses she still needs a man; where there should be closure, there is nothing. The last time I saw something as bleak as this was at the Samuel Beckett festival in Enniskillen. It isn’t an easy watch but the fierce, focused intelligence of Piper’s film-making is exhilarating.”

Piper shared with U.K. publication Metro the motivation behind her very different kind of movie:

“There’s this message that you can have it all and do it all and that it’s not enough to just get through your working day – you have to be really successful and brilliant too,” she said.

She added: “I guess I’m coming to terms with male oppression. I know a fair share about it, even in its most passive form. I’m examining that now I’m a woman in my mid-30s who is living and working in what has been a man’s world for so long.”

9 Years Later, Gymnast Chellsie Memmel Is Back at Age 32 — Watch Her Inspiring Return

The 2021 GK US Classic was Chellsie Memmel’s first competition since she retired from gymnastics in 2012. She’s the 2005 world all-around champion, and she received team silver at the 2008 Beijing Games. Now 32 (turning 33 next month) and a mom of two, Memmel returned to the national stage on May 22 after declaring a comeback last summer and documenting her journey on social media along the way. She competed in two events — vault and beam — in the first session of the US Classic.

On vault, Memmel performed a high-flying Yurchenko full in a laid-out position, which scored a 13.750. On beam, she nailed her back handspring step-out to two layout step-outs as well as her front tuck. Memmel received an 11.800 for that beam routine, having fallen on her Arabian, essentially a half turn into a front flip, and wobbling on her illusion turn. When POPSUGAR spoke with Memmel last August, she said one of her comeback goals was solidifying a piked Arabian on beam, and while she did not showcase it on May 22, she started working on the skill in practice during the COVID-19 pandemic. If she were to land it successfully at a major FIG competition, it would be named after her.

Very weird walking into the arena as a gymnast again but amazing at the same time,” Memmel, who’s coached by her dad, wrote on Twitter at the conclusion of podium training on May 21. “Everyone was so welcoming and supportive and I couldn’t have asked for a better first time back out on the floor.” She then wrote, “Thank you for following along on this journey that has lead to my first competition in 9 years…here goes nothing!”

Nine years have passed, but Memmel is proving that hard work truly can pay off and a sport that’s long been known to have a time limit once gymnasts reach their 20s doesn’t need to close its doors on athletes after a certain age. “I also want to just be able to inspire people and moms, especially moms, to take some time to do something for yourself,” she told us last year. “Sometimes we get a little bit lost and tied up in our kids, and that’s not a bad thing at all, but I feel like I’m a better mom when I have some time to do things for myself.”

In an interview after her US Classic session concluded, Memmel said, “I feel like this is a win,” adding that she didn’t know what to expect with her nerves. “I felt really good. It felt great to start on vault with one of my best vaults of the weekend. Obviously, beam didn’t go as well as I wanted, but I am happy. I put myself out there, and I couldn’t have asked for a better day.”

Memmel continued on to say that she’s motivated by her love for the sport: “I’m not gonna get sick of saying this, and I’m not gonna stop saying it because that’s really the biggest driving force of just enjoying doing gymnastics.” It’s those hard days where she remembers, “‘You’re just pushing yourself. You’re having fun. You’re seeing how far you can actually take this when people said you should have retired when you were 20 or when you were 24, [or] you can’t have kids and come back to a sport.'” That way of thinking, she stated, “I feel is so backwards, but that’s what we think is true, and it’s not true. For me, I just want to put that message out to anybody who thought they missed their chance at something or didn’t get a chance to try it or wanted to go back to their sport even just for fun. No one should be stopping you, just don’t hold yourself back.”

Ahead, watch Memmel’s performances on vault and beam from the 2021 GK US Classic. It’s unclear as of now whether she will be at the Olympic trials this summer, though she plans on getting the other events, bars and floor, ready before Nationals next month, according to USA TODAY. Plus, she noted at the end of our interview last fall, “I know how hard it is to make an Olympic team, and just the field of athletes right now is incredible. But even if there would be a slim possibility, why not give it a shot and just see what I can do?” No matter what, Memmel’s comeback is downright inspiring to witness.

Taylor Swift ‘Can See Herself Marrying’ Joe Alwyn After ‘They Grew Closer’ in Quarantine

Joe Alwyn and Taylor Swift have been dating since several months before media reports confirmed they were together in May 2017. They’ve kept their relationship fairly private over the years, but Alwyn was a collaborator on Swift’s surprise 2020 albums, folklore and evermore. He even picked up a (late) Grammy for his work on folklore.

It’s safe to say these two are very together, and a source tells Entertainment Tonight, big things are reportedly ahead for the longtime couple.

“They grew closer than ever during the quarantine and she really trusts him,” the source says and said they “are so in love.”

“They’ve been continuing to be pretty low-key about their relationship to the outside world to continue to protect it.” The source added: “They’ve discussed future plans and Taylor can see herself marrying Joe one day.”

Speculation over the couple’s marriage plans has been brewing for several years. In 2019, a source told Us Weekly that “Joe wants to marry her and she wants to marry him. He’s just waiting to find the perfect time to propose. He wants to make it unforgettable and extremely special.”

The source added: “Taylor’s friends are all talking about a proposal and how she really wants to marry Joe,” says the insider. “He’s her dream guy.”

During quarantine, Swift and Alwyn have been splitting their time between their respective home countries, the U.S. and U.K.

E! reported in January that “she is back and forth between Nashville and England spending time with her family and with Joe’s family. They take walks in the neighborhood and go on hikes to get fresh air.”

Odacité just launched its first-ever sunscreen

California-based brand Odacité has long been a pioneer in the green beauty space. With an ethos that intersects luxe, science-based French skincare and green Cali living, the brand just launched its most difficult-to-make product: Sun Guardian, a non-nano zinc oxide, fragrance- and silicone-free, broad spectrum SPF 30 that took five years—and dozens of iterations—to formulate and put through clinical testing. The end result? A soothing matte formula that combines oceanic glacial water, aloe vera, vitamin E and green tea. “Everyone in the lab kept telling me it’s impossible to make a truly clean mineral sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white cast and has an SPF of 30,” says founder Valérie Grandury. Despite not having a background in cosmetic chemistry herself, she insisted the formulators find a way. “That bliss of not really knowing gives you the capacity to push the limit way beyond the norm,” she laughs.

Harry Rosen gets into men’s grooming

Canadian luxury men’s retailer Harry Rosen is getting in on the grooming category in a major way. The brand has just announced its entry into men’s skincare, haircare and grooming products with a curated collection of over 400 (!) products — 25 percent of which are from Canadian brands — at a wide range of price points, offering something for everyone. “Our category expansion was inspired by what our customers told us they want and need,” said Ian Rosen, EVP digital & strategy, in a statement. “As a third-generation Rosen, I watched my grandfather build a heritage of trust that Canadian men have counted on since 1954. Grooming is now a part of that legacy.” Some of the brands carried include Tom Ford, Creed and Schaf.

Prince Harry’s Biggest Bombshells in The Me You Can’t See Docuseries With Oprah

Back in March, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat down for a two-hour interview special with Oprah where the couple revealed why and how they stepped back from the royal family. Now, in the new Apple TV+ docuseries The Me You Can’t See, executive produced by Oprah and Harry, the Duke of Sussex is opening up even more about the trauma he experienced as a child, how he finally started taking care of his mental health, and what it was like to watch his wife struggle when the two lived in the U.K. Below, some of the biggest bombshells from the series’ five episodes.

Prince Harry said he never processed his mother’s death when he was a child.

“For many, many years, I didn’t even think about it,” he said, referring to when his mother Princess Diana died in a car crash when he was only 12 years old. Harry explained that he often felt powerless growing up since he was unable to help his mother, who was continually chased and harassed by paparazzi and the media.

As he got older, Harry said his mental health struggles worsened, and he would get panic attacks and severe anxiety, revealing that ages 28 to 32 were a “nightmare time” in his life. He said he was willing to drink excessively and take drugs in order to mask his feelings, and that he felt stuck within the royal system.

Even now, Harry said that flying to London can be a “trigger” for him. “I wasn’t aware of it at the time when I was younger, but after I started doing therapy stuff I became aware of it,” he said. “I was like, why do I feel so uncomfortable? And of course, for me, London is a trigger, unfortunately, because of what happened to my mum, and because of what I experienced and what I saw.”

Meghan Markle didn’t act on her suicidal thoughts because she didn’t want to put Harry through more pain.

In Meghan’s interview with Oprah in March, she shared that she contemplated suicide during her time within the royal family. Harry then explained in The Me You Can’t See: “The scariest thing for her was her clarity of thought. She hadn’t ‘lost it.’ She wasn’t crazy. She wasn’t self-medicating, be it through pills or through alcohol. She was absolutely sober. She was completely sane. Yet in the quiet of night, these thoughts woke her up. The thing that stopped her from seeing it through was how unfair it would be on me after everything that had happened to my mum and to now be put in a position of losing another woman in my life, with a baby inside of her, our baby.”

Harry said he was “ashamed” of how he dealt with the situation and that he was “really angry” that the two were seemingly stuck within this system. “I was ashamed that it got this bad,” he said. “I was ashamed to go to my family, because to be honest with you, like a lot of other people my age could probably relate to, I know that I’m not gonna get from my family what I need.”

He also said that “one of the biggest reasons” he decided to step back from the family was the fear of losing his wife. “I then had a son, who I’d far rather be solely focused on, rather than every time I look in his eyes, wondering whether my wife is going to end up like my mother, and I’m going to have to look after him myself,” he said.

Even after the two left the family, Harry said he once found Meghan crying due to the “combined effort of the Firm and the media to smear her” before the Oprah interview aired. “I was woken up in the middle of the night to her crying in her pillow because she doesn’t want to wake me up, because I’m already carrying too much,” he said. “That’s heartbreaking. I held her, we talked, she cried, and she cried, and she cried.”

Prince Harry’s biggest regret is not calling out the racism surrounding Meghan sooner.

In the docuseries, Harry explained that when the British tabloids were constantly attacking Meghan in the press, he could see that “history was repeating itself.” He said he wishes he would have taken more of a stance earlier on in his relationship with Meghan, particularly in “calling out the racism when I did.”

“My mother was chased to her death while she was in a relationship with someone who wasn’t white, and now look what’s happened,” he said. “You want to talk about history repeating itself? They’re not going to stop until she [Meghan] dies. It was incredibly triggering to potentially lose another woman in my life.”

One of Archie’s first words was “grandma” for Princess Diana.

Harry said that he has “no doubt” his mother would be proud of him, and that he’s living the life “she wanted to live for herself.” “I’ve never felt her presence more as I have done over the past year,” he explained.

He went on to say that he wishes Diana could’ve met Meghan and his son, Archie. “I’ve got a photo up in his nursery, and it was one of the first words that he said, apart from ‘Mama,’ ‘Papa,’ was then ‘Grandma,’ Grandma Diana,” Harry said. “It’s the sweetest thing, but at the same time, it makes me really sad because she should be here.”

Blogilates Creator Cassey Ho on Following Your Dreams: “Never Let Who You Are Stand in the Way”

Blogilates creator Cassey Ho wasn’t always famous for Pilates: she started off playing tennis at a young age, and her dad was her coach, so naturally, she loved to move. In high school, Ho was preparing for a pageant and found Pilates because she’d seen the Mari Winsor Pilates DVDs. “I begged my mom to get it for me! I was amazed at how graceful and strong everyone was in these videos, and I wanted to be just like them,” Ho told POPSUGAR.

She practiced every single day after school and found herself so obsessed with this newfound way of movement. At first, she’d be so sore after each workout, but then she felt herself become strong. That’s when she got really hooked. Ho started teaching Pilates in college when a local studio helped her get her certification and offered her the opportunity to teach. That started it all, but her path to fitness fandom wasn’t always easy. Keep reading to learn about her experience being Vietnamese Chinese and how she learned to see her culture as one of the best parts of her identity.

The Complete List of Winners at the 2021 CAFA Awards

Lesley Hampton and Kaitlynn McLeod. Photography courtesy of George Pimentel.

Including designer Lesley Hampton’s Fashion Impact Award win and many more. Congrats to all the winners and nominees!

The seventh annual CAFA Awards took place on May 19, playing out virtually for the first time ever. Hosted by Canadian actress Amanda Brugel, the ceremony popped in and out of the homes of presenters, guests, winners and nominees in real time, helping the fashion community feel as connected as ever after more than a year of isolation.

“Toronto, we’ve been going through a lot of hard times. Our industry is very small, but together we can build it and make it stronger,” expressed Kirk Pickersgill, co-creator at Greta Constantine. The beloved Canadian label, seen in recent months on global stars like Viola Davis and Amanda Gorman, took home the Womenswear Designer of the Year award. “We have to stay together, we have to play together and we have to be together, no matter what we go through.”

The annual CAFA Awards shine a much-needed spotlight on the vibrant talent and emerging creatives in Canada’s fashion landscape. Montreal milliners Alex Surprenant and Melodie Lavergne of Fumile took home the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent (Accessories), and Victoria Hayes was awarded the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent (Fashion) for her eponymous label. Both recipients received a $10,000 honorarium.

Hayes is Toronto-raised and New York-based, just like International Designer of the Year recipient Tanya Taylor. “This year’s provided me a lot of time to look back at how and why I’ve started this brand, and a lot of it is rooted in being Canadian,” said Taylor.

“When I moved to New York, I didn’t know anyone in the industry or the city, and I saw something I wanted to change. I wanted the fashion industry to feel more inclusive; I wanted to provide more joyfulness; I wanted it to be rooted in community. I wanted more women to wear clothing that allowed them to express themselves. When I look back at how I was raised in Canada and what a lot of the morals are of Canadians, it’s that, ‘diversity is beautiful.’”

Grace Lee gave an impactful acceptance speech, too, winning the Makeup Artist of the Year award. Lee’s success is reinforcement that determination and hard work pays off. “I’ve been doing this job for 24 years, and I’ve heard a lot of ‘no’. I want to thank those people who have said those really important ‘yeses.’”

The Outstanding Achievement Award went out to FASHION Magazine’s April 2020 cover co-star Maye Musk, who, at 73 years old, proves that women can achieve success and recognition at any age. Twenty-five years ago, Musk was living in a rent-controlled apartment, supporting three teenage kids, working toward her Masters degree at the University of Toronto while modelling part-time and establishing her dietitian business. “Some of you who have not received such wonderful awards yet, just keep going,” she said.

The Best Twitter Reactions to Olivia Rodrigo’s New Album Sour

That sweet aroma you smelled on this fine Friday morning isn’t the dewy freshness and crisp breeze of a mid-May day, but a whiff of an eau de teen’s tears and anguish (and a dab of Ariana Grande Cloud) because Gen Z darling Olivio Rodrigo’s debut album Sour has finally dropped.

Sour has been highly anticipated since Rodrigo’s “Driver’s License” had all the youths on TikTok pining over an ex and all the olds reliving their high school heartbreaks over a dramatic bridge with a soaring choir. Olivia was transforming from Disney star to veritable pop darling à la the Mileys, Selenas, and Demis that came before her—Disney knees and all. But unlike her Disney predecessors, Rodrigo has found a way to separate her acting pursuits from her singing and songwriting career, allowing her to shed the cringe-y cookie-cutter image former Disney stars adopted in their early days. She flips the middle finger to the romanticization of being young and in love on Sour cut “brutal” (“Where’s my fucking teenage dream?”) and slips on a comfy cardigan for the Taylor Swift-esque “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back.” The album font may be in lowercase, but Rodrigo’s message is loud and clear: POP HAS A NEW PRINCESS.

Of course, an album this hotly anticipated would send Twitter in a tizzy. Feeds were flooded with first-listen impressions of Rodrigo’s album, from users traveling down heartbreak memory lane to the “olds” keeping up with Gen Z’s pop takeover. Below, the best Twitter reactions to Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour album.

Got a Full Laundry Basket or Stack of Textbooks? Now You Have Weights For Squats at Home

@asapmonny

The cool thing about your muscles is that they don’t “know” the weights/load you’re using, they only know TENSION!!! 🏋🏻‍♀️ #gymtok #workoutfromhome

♬ astronaut in the ocean x toxic by adamusic – Adam Wright

We believe that fitness shouldn’t fit into a box. You can get creative with how you exercise, and anyone should be able to find modifications that work for them. When it comes to working out at home, not everyone has access to weights, but NASM-certified personal trainer Monica Blanco, who goes by @asapmonny on Instagram and TikTok, showcases just how many household items you can use — and there are even more than she mentions — for resistance. In the video above, watch Blanco demonstrate ways to do weighted squats using ordinary things such as a full laundry basket, a large bag of rice (sure, why not!), textbooks, a packed duffle bag or backpack, a handle of alcohol, a stool, water bottle jugs, luggage, and a gardening pot.

“The cool thing about your muscles is that they don’t ‘know’ the weights/load you’re using, they only know TENSION!!!” Blanco wrote in the TikTok caption. She told POPSUGAR, too, that you can definitely use weight replacements for more than just squats, though she noted that exercises you do will depend on the weight alternative you’re carrying. You can try lunges, deadlifts, glute bridges, hip thrusts, and isometric lower-body exercises (holding a static position), she said. Make sure you’re able to safely and properly complete moves with the household items you have on hand, but this goes to show that thinking outside of the norms for fitness is absolutely possible. And, it’s fun!

New York-based Brand EdoEyen Honours the History of Angkorian Jewellery Design

Photography courtesy of Edoeyen.

“We’re having fun and that’s all that matters for now.”

If you’re looking to up your accessory game (applicable to both video call moments AND emerging into the wider world one day), New York-based jewellery brand Edoeyen offers pieces that are both significant and spectacular. Founders and sisters Edo and Eyen Chorm launched the label late last year, inspired by their Khmer roots and the legacy of finery within Cambodian culture.

“Not a lot of people know about it,” Edo notes of the Angkorian civilization; the mythology of this ancient Buddhist/Hindu society, found in the region now known as Cambodia, mesmerized the duo as children. Edo was born in Cambodia and her sister was born in Thailand; their family had fled Cambodia in the wake of the brutal regime of the Khmer Rouge, living in Thailand and the Philippines prior to traveling to America “seeking a better life,” says Edo. “We were literally rolling stones, as it was part of the grueling process of seeking alyssum as refugees.” Despite the distance to their ancestral country, the pair’s parents ensured a piece of their heritage was always with them.

“Our mom always told us stories about the Angkorian people,” Eyen says, adding that they also watched movies made during the 1960s and early ‘70s which featured the elaborate traditional costuming of the Royal Ballet. The sisters also learned about the lavish jewellery worn by Angkorians thanks to participation in Cambodian classical dance during their youth. Edo says she was always entranced by the regalia worn by older people in the troupe, and aspired to one day don such extravagant pieces herself.

Thanks to their mutual experiences in the fashion world (Edo is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology and Eyen used to model), the two eventually came to the idea of creating a jewellery line that honoured their Khmer identity, preserving the artistry of historical accessories while infusing a sense of modern cool into the range.

Edoeyen launched with its Face collection, composed of the Neang Neak ear cuff, the Phkachhouk 1.0 and 2.0 earrings, and the bold Kbang crown. Fashioned in New York City’s Diamond District from a choice of either precious or costume materials that are either recycled or new and ethically sourced, the pieces are certainly beyond the ordinary. And that’s exactly the point.

“I love tiaras,” Edo says when highlighting the Kbang’s crowns design and how it instantly elevates a look to royal status. She adds that the piece took a long time to bring to market because of its size and the complication of the design. In fact, all of Edoeyen’s offerings possess a level of intricacy that has largely been absent from the contemporary jewellery landscape thanks to a focus on daintier, minimalistic pieces in recent years.

The sisters, who are self-taught in the area of jewellery design, emphasize that an element of theatricality and grandeur has to be retained in their concepts. After all, they’re reminiscent of the accessories worn by kings and queens. The Neang Neak ear cuff, for example, is an homage to Queen Soma, the purported original monarch of Cambodia. And the Phkachhouk earrings are meant to symbolize hope, rendering the revered Lotus flower in two stages of its growth. The design was influenced by the only publicly-known pair of ancient royal regalia earrings in existence, which are displayed at the National Museum of Cambodia.

While Edoeyen’s pieces amplify the traditions of their ancestry, Eyen says that she and her sister are excited to “bring the designs to the world.” Edo adds that such cultural representation also “helps people have a voice in the [fashion] industry.” The duo recently dropped a teaser from their upcoming Hand collection, due out this summer; a ring boasting a wrap-around serpent-style silhouette.

“We didn’t create this brand to meet a demand,” Edo notes of their measured and curated approach to collection ideation and releases. “It’s to grow an appreciation of this type of art. I know it goes against all the marketing rules, [but] we’re having fun and that’s all that matters for now.”

Meet the ‘Slaysians’

“How many times have you been subjected to mediocre, romantic, rom-com movies, starring white people?” asks Nepali-American designer Prabal Gurung. “When the AAPI community and minority communities are not just celebrated for their excellence, but allowed to exist in the mediocrity also, that is when we know true inclusivity is happening. You’re allowing them to live.”

As New York City reemerges from its COVID cocoon, Gurung and his fellow vaccinated friends have gathered at Flip Sigi, a West Village restaurant owned by their friend Jordan Andino, that serves Filipino food reworked as familiar American (and Canadian) standards. Oscar de la Renta Creative Director Laura Kim loves the pork belly baos. Gurung is a fan of the breakfast sandwich made with pandesal, a pillowy bread roll that’s a morning staple in the Philippines. Influencer Tina Leung reaches for Adobo wrapped into a burrito and longoniza, a sweet sausage derived from its Spanish colonizers crumbled atop fries and cheese for makeshift poutine. For Asian Americans, it’s a welcome crash of worlds, and blissfully unrelated to “Asian fusion,” the outdated cuisine bastardized and appropriated by celebrity chefs that introduced the west to mandarin chicken salad.

Meet the Slaysians. Phillip Lim, Tina Leung, Laura Kim, and Prabal Gurung

Tyler Joe

“It’s a whole cycle of celebration, tragedy, and endearment, all rolled into an evening.”

The group digging into the feast make up the self-proclaimed “Slaysians.” In many aspects, the Slaysians are fashion’s real-life Bling Empire. (Socialite Ezra Williams, the youngest of the group and the only one not present that night, starred in the 2019 reality show Rich Kids of Instagram. The title is apt.) We’re used to seeing them all at a distance and on a pedestal, influencer Leung parting crowds during fashion week, Williams on our grids posing with the Hiltons, or watching the three designers close their respective shows in that sprint-bow-run backstage move all humble creatives do. Tonight the silk organza veil is lifted, and this dinner is an intimate gaze into their private and surprisingly casual lives, drinking dirty martinis out of dixie cups. Leung screams “champagne shots!” and lifts each plastic glass to encourage controlled alcohol poisoning. She slices her finger on the exposed neck of the bottle, blood dripping down her diamond rings. “Should I sterilize it with champagne?”

“That’s the reason my phone is always frozen, all these memories,” Kim chimes in, showing all the videos of the group’s escapades on her camera roll. They tickle each other. They craft texts to would-be paramours together. They all chipped in to gift Kim Amina Muaddi heels for her birthday. They tease Lim for hoarding water and air fryers at the beginning of the pandemic. “We never had time to be silly and be like kids, and we are able to be like that with each other,” adds Lim. Andino doesn’t let a cup go unfilled as the night evolves. Like every other #SlaysianDinner, lip-sync performances are held and Gurung heckles sidewalk passersbys to join their dance party.

The origin story of the Slaysians is fragmented, a tangled web of shared acquaintances and social circles going back as early as 2004, when Gurung and Kim first met in an elevator at a fashion building that housed both Bill Blass, where Gurung once worked, and Oscar de la Renta, which Kim now helms with her co-creative director (and best friend) Fernando Garcia. But it wasn’t until Crazy Rich Asians premiered that they realized the power and healing nature of their unity. After Gurung attended a private viewing of the blockbuster film, he reached out to the studio to host a screening for Asians in fashion. Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony, Joseph Altuzarra, Claudia Li, Dao Yi Chow, and the three Slaysian designers were all in attendance. “It was the first time that the Asian creatives, designers, editors, stylists [of the fashion industry] came in one place without profiting. We all came together for a cause,” he said. The emotional confrontation of representation on the silver screen instantly bonded them. One movie turned into homecooked dinners, which turned into Bubble_T raves, which turned into intimate evenings masquerading as therapy sessions. Eventually, it whittled down to the five core members, the Slaysians’ hijinks documented on Instagram in grainy photos posted during the late hours of the night.

The meals vary, alternating between Lim’s beautiful recipes he shares on his Stories to takeout to Michelin-star restaurants. The subtle microaggressions in the industry they each experienced and internalized crystallized with every Slaysian Dinner. Emotions were unpacked over a bowl of pho or an Andino-prepared kamayan feast, eaten traditionally with their hands. “It’s a whole cycle of celebration, tragedy, and endearment, all rolled into an evening,” Lim says.

“The narrative that has been told to us, is we’ll need X amount of Asian or minority designers. It’s unsaid, but you understand that,” Prabal says. “Our implicit biases are so influenced by the Eurocentric, colonial lens of what we think chic is. Dismantling that, redefining that, is our job. As creatives of color, we get to redefine what is beautiful”

Being Asian brought them together, but it doesn’t define their friendship. Food is what they really bond over. “It’s not like, ‘Watch out for that shrimp paste,” TK analogizes, about the need to caution non-Asians about fermented pastes or unfamiliar seasonings. “You can just show up and enjoy the food without having to explain the ingredients.” Prabal parrots the same sentiments. “I don’t have to worry about, ‘oh is that spicy’ or ‘is that smelly.’ ‘Is that weird? What are you eating?’ I can eat however I want with my Slaysians.” The flavors they share extend beyond their palettes, with similar lived experiences moving through the world as prime examples of Asian excellence, while actively working to tear down the Model Minority Myth.

“If you’re constantly pressuring and only celebrating minorities when they’re excellent, what you’re doing is saying that they are there for your entertainment,” reasons Prabal. “You’re creating this narrative to basically say, ‘look at this group, they’re so excellent. They’ve achieved everything.’ And pointing out to other minority groups: ‘that is what you need to be. And when you become that, that is only when we will talk to you.'”

“The industry is performative, there’s no doubt about it in my mind,” Gurung says.

“When I started, if you are someone who loves fashion, you must be stupid. Or if you’re a smart person, you don’t care about how you look,” Prabal maintains.”People used to say,

Their friendship became an act of resistance in a business that rarely gave them a seat at the table. When it did, oftentimes it felt as if it was to fill a quota. Rarely do you see a “wave” of white designers splashed as a buzzy headline. “We are not a monolith,” says Lim. The vastly different ethnicities and experiences all lumped under the “Asian” umbrella should not be contained to a fashion spread revealed during A(A)PI Heritage Month. The Slaysians banded together to create strength and visibility. “It was important that we celebrate each other’s shows and show the public that we’re not competitors. We’re not what you’re trying to do to us and we’re gonna show you that we’re friends on and off the court,“ Lim continues. Now, the designers share once-sacred industry secrets, gossiping in their group chat about interactions with buyers and which factories in China to work with. “The reason why I launched bridal was because of Laura,” Gurung divulges, who also happens to be wearing 3.1 Phillip Lim boots.

“Our implicit biases are so influenced by the Eurocentric, colonial lens of what we think chic is. Dismantling that, redefining that, is our job.”

For Leung, the only influencer in the group, her story is different but sings the same tune. As part of the first generation of style influencers (before influencers were even a thing), she noticed the current trend of fitting the mold for campaigns. One Black model. One white talent. And her. “I don’t want to be the chosen because of tokenism,” she says. “But I guess you can’t reach enlightenment or whatever without some pain first.”

The Slaysians found solace in solidarity, which was intensified by the pandemic as the group forged a quarantine bubble. They rallied to help create masks and jobs at the onset of COVID, rung in the new year together, took to the streets for Black lives (encouraged mostly by Gurung, affectionately nicknamed Protest Prabal), and most recently, started speaking out against anti-Asian hate. “When you’re a minority and you get this big job, big title, big opportunity, it comes with a massive responsibility,” Gurung says. “When we get a position of power, what are we going to do with it? It just can’t be for yourself.”

As Asians, they had all been encouraged to be quieter, both in their physical voices and on their runways. “If I never met them, I would have never posted anything on my Instagram regarding Asian hate. But the Slaysians taught me that I have a platform,” says Kim.

A week later after the dinner, Gurung relays a story: “I remember one collection was about this particular region between Tibet and China, where one woman can marry several men. I’ll never forget one person, a Fashion Director of an online platform, who said that if we want to see a collection about this, we will watch National Geographic. People are so crazy racist. People would ask to make it about St. Tropez, where people can understand. All my life, even within fashion, they’ve always tried to shut me down. And it was a battle that I was fighting alone. And then I met the Slaysians.”

“We’re going to call ourselves The Slaysians. We’re going to show publicly how we’re proud to be who we are,” Lim declares. “We’re proud to be Asian, we’re friends with each other, and there’s no competition here.”

While major ateliers stayed mum to the racism experienced by the Asian (American) and Pacific Islander communities, the Slaysians became fashion’s face of the movement. They banned together to create viral videos and raise funds for victims of assault. “It used to be about letting the clothes speak for themselves,” says Lim. “Now the clothes need to support your value system.”

“What’s disappointing is how the industry forgets, how celebrities forget. At one point we want to be all woke and stuff, but when it serves us, then we make it okay [to side with certain brands],” Lim relates. “I think what’s dangerous is when you’re fighting injustice for our community, and then you see what we saw during this past red carpet and the Oscars,” referring to liberal celebrities opting to wear clothes by designers with a trail of racist receipts. You vote with your dollar, and the Slaysians believe you dissent with your dress. And they’re not stopping the conversation any time soon, taking to their stories to discuss political topics. Lim’s non-profit brand New York. Tougher Than Ever, just launched a shirt to free Palastine.

“It used to be about letting the clothes speak for themselves,” says Lim. “Now the clothes need to support your value system.”

“Our bond and connection and chemistry is way beyond us being Asian,” Williams tells me over the phone. “We’re like siblings. Whatever problems we have, we try to be there for each other.”

The alcohol at Flip Sigi flows free, but it’s not never-ending. As the night wanes, speeches slur and eyes glaze. Masks on, the Slaysians splinter. A few head home while others stumble off to a second location. Bound by fashion and food, a friendship that has only deepened in its short life, they are already in their group chat checking on each other.

When I ask them individually what their favorite Slaysian memory is, almost all share the same answer. Early in the pandemic sometime last April, an impromptu dance party turned dangerous when Gurung slipped and dislocated his shoulder. Together they scurried to the emergency room, spending the evening waiting until he returned fully repaired. Their friendship has cycles: from celebration to pain to healing. And then to the next meal.

BTS’s New Single ‘Butter’ Is a Melt-In-Your-Mouth Showcase of Charisma

If there were ever any doubts that K-pop sensation BTS would be first in line as song-of-the-summer contenders, consider those doubts duly squashed and smoothed over. With their new single “Butter,” the band’s second song sung entirely in English, the boys make conjuring joy look easy—so long as you’ve got enough drip.

After annihilating YouTube records—the single’s music video hit 10 million views in 13 minutes, then became the fastest video ever to reach 50 million views—“Butter” is continuing to devour global charts. It’s lighter fare from the talented group, an upbeat and bouncy track that keeps its stars in high registers but thrums with a steady bass beat.

“If you hear the title ‘Butter,’ you know immediately that we tried to prepare a song that’s easy listening, instead of [something with] a really heavy or profound message,” band member Jimin told Variety. “This is a little embarrassing, but it’s something smooth like butter, that really melts into and grabs hold of you. It’s a very cute song, sort of a confession.”

A confession of what, exactly, Jimin didn’t clarify, but we’d hazard a guess it’s that the band is admitting what the rest of the world already knows: They’re at the very pinnacle of global pop. They’ve crossed borders, figurative and literal, that no other group has managed before them. If you think you know how big they are, think bigger. There is no other crew embracing superstar status in a vein quite like BTS, and the lyrics of “Butter” are a cheeky admission that the seven young men are relishing the view from the top. Oh, and they have zero intentions of halting the climb.

“Of course we want and continue to want to receive a Grammy Award,” band member Suga told Variety. “‘Butter’ will be another try at the Grammy Award. I hope we will have good results.”

You won’t uncover much symbolism or hidden codes embedded in “Butter”’s simple lyrics, but the verses contain several clever references both to other musicians and pop culture ephemera. The band credits Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” in their opening lyrics (“Smooth like butter / like a criminal undercover”), as well as Usher’s “U Got It Bad” (“Don’t need no Usher / To remind me you got it bad”). And, of course, they reference their beloved fans, known as ARMY: “All the playas get movin’ when the bass low / Got ARMY right behind us when we say so.”

Verse 1: Jung Kook, V
Smooth like butter
Like a criminal undercover
Gon’ pop like trouble
Breakin’ into your heart like that (Ooh)
Cool shade stunner
Yeah, I owe it all to my mother
Hot like summer
Yeah, I’m makin’ you sweat like that
Break it down

Pre-Chorus: Jin, RM
Oh, when I look in the mirror
I’ll melt your heart into two
I got that superstar glow so (Ooh)
Do the boogie like

Chorus: Jung Kook, Jimin, V
Side step, right, left to my beat
High like the moon, rock with me, baby
Know that I got that heat
Let me show you ‘cause talk is cheap
Side step, right, left to my beat
Get it, let it roll

Verse 2: Jung Kook, V, Jin
Smooth like butter
Pull you in like no other
Don’t need no Usher
To remind me you got it bad
Ain’t no other
That can sweep you up like a robber
Straight up, I got ya
Makin’ you fall like that
Break it down

Pre-Chorus: Jimin, RM
Oh, when I look in the mirror
I’ll melt your heart into two
I got that superstar glow so (Ooh)
Do the boogie like

Chorus: Jimin, Jin, Jung Kook
Side step, right, left to my beat
High like the moon, rock with me, baby
Know that I got that heat
Let me show you ‘cause talk is cheap
Side step, right, left to my beat
Get it, let it roll

Post-Chorus: Jimin
Get it, let it roll
Get it, let it roll

Verse 3: SUGA, RM
Ice on my wrist, I’m the nice guy
Got the right body and the right mind
Rollin’ up to party, got the right vibe
Smooth like (Butter), hate us (Love us)
Fresh boy pull up and we lay low
All the playas get movin’ when the bass low
Got ARMY right behind us when we say so
Let’s go

Chorus: V, Jin, Jung Kook, Jimin
Side step, right, left to my beat (Right, left to my beat)
High like the moon, rock with me, baby
Know that I got that heat
Let me show you ’cause talk is cheap (You know that talk is cheap)
Side step, right, left to my beat
Get it, let it roll

Post-Chorus: j-hope, RM, Jung Kook
Smooth like (Butter), cool shade (Stunner)
And you know we don’t stop
Hot like (Summer), ain’t no (Bummer)
You be like oh my god
We gon’ make you rock and you say (Yeah)
We gon’ make you bounce and you say (Yeah)
Hotter? Sweeter! Cooler? Butter!
Get it, let it roll
